Hertha – Hannover

Ibisevic Hertha Berlin goal

Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 will open up the 29th round of Bundesliga football, with neither team coming into this match with good morale.

Hertha is having an unbelievable campaign and is currently sitting on the 3rd place in the standings, but the hosts are on the back of a horrible loss, their worst performance of the season. After 2 consecutive wins, Hertha lost 0-5 at Monchengladbach last round – a loss which is made even worse by the fact that Gladbach is their main rival for the 3rd place. On the bright side, Hertha still has a 3 point advantage and will be desperate to maintain the cushion.

Hannover is dead last in the table, 10 points behind salvation and everything is pretty much over for them. The visitors are on the back of a 0-3 home loss to Hamburg, their 5th consecutive defeat. Much of Hannover’s problems came in the second part of the season, with the team being absolutely horrific after the Winter Break. In 2016, Hannover lost 10 out of the 11 matches played! The visitors finally sacked Thomas Schaaf this week and will approach this clash with an interim manager, Daniel Stendel.

Team news & lineups:

Kurt, Brooks and Allagui won’t be in Hertha’s lineup. Benschop, Yamaguchi, Andreasen and Felipe will miss out for Hannover.

Hertha Berlin: Jarstein – Weiser, Langkamp, Stark, Plattenhardt – Skjelbred, Lustenberger – Haraguchi, Darida, Kalou – Ibisevic

Hannover 96
: Zieler – Sakai, Milosevic, Schulz, Sorg – Schmiedebach, Hoffmann – Bech, Kiyotake, Karaman – Sobiech

No less than 4 teams are 4 points or less behind Hertha in the standings, so this is an absolute must win game for the home side . If they don`t claim the three points, Champions League football might slip away from them – especially since Hertha really needs to finish 3rd, as they would have to play in the qualifiers if they finish 4th and wouldn’t be seeded. I expect Hertha to bounce back here after the disaster in Monchengladbach.

Hannover 96 seems to have given up on hope, they are playing worse and worse with every week. At the start of the year they were at least competitive despite losing, but now 3 of their last 5 matches were lost by 3 or more goals – and we`re not talking about defeats with Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund. The managerial change is really the only thing giving them hope ahead of this match, but how much impact could that make against an excellent team like Hertha, on the road?

All Hannover can do is come here, play without pressure, try to win and hope for a miracle. As such, I don`t see the visitors defending in numbers, so it should be even easier for Hertha to break them down. All this being said, my tip is Hertha to win and cover a 1 goal asian handicap. I was thinking of investing maximum stakes on this bet, but I will “just” bet 9 units due to Hannover having a new manager. Prediction: Hertha Berlin – Hannover 2-0.
