Iceland – Canada

Canada Iceland betting previewInternational Friendly between Iceland and Canada, as the two sides meet for a second time in four days after Iceland previously won 2-1 in Orlando (which will also host tonight’s clash).

Iceland does not have its stars available, as team selection only includes players from the Nordic leagues as Norway, Denmark or Sweden – the most notable being Gislason from Copenhagen. However, Iceland looked pretty good in the first match with Canada, opening the score in the 6th minute and than choosing to wait it out and play on counters, going 2-0 up before conceding a late goal. Surely Iceland was not at the level shown in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, but they confirmed the fact that this side is more about team chemistry and coaching than individual players. Also, the guys that came in showed a lot of ambition and desire.

Canada’s team selection also does not include the best players from Europe, as the North Americans only called up guys from Canada-based MLS teams like Toronto and Montreal in addition to some unnatached guys. Canada did not play a bad game four days ago but they were clearly unable to cope with Icelan’s fast pace and direct style of play, in the end 1-2 was the correct result. Dwayne de Rosario is the star of this improvised Canada team.

Lineups: The two sides will probably mix it up a bit this time around, but here are the lineups they fielded in the previous meeting.

Iceland: Halldorsson – Valgarosson, Ingason, Ottesen, Bjarnason – Steindorsson, Palsson, Sigurjonsson, Gislason – Vilhjalmsson, Boovarsson

Canada: Stamatopoulos – Attakora-Gyan, Straith, Jankovic, James – Ouimette, Osorio, Piette, Teibert – de Guzman, Hume

Both sides are missing a lot of guys, Iceland maybe a little bit more weakened, but I really fancy them to get a second win against Canada. The first match was never in doubt as Iceland showed more maturity and experience and I see no reason why they shouldn’t take a second win in a row against Canada. The hosts are far from a good team, they have just one win in the last 20 matches (!!) and that was against Jamaica. Look for Iceland’s european experience, chemistry and even superior quality to prevail again. The fact that these Iceland players showed so much fighting spirit and desire in the first match eliminates a bit of the “friendly match risk”, but I`m still keeping the stakes reasonable.

My tip is Iceland to win, I don`t think the odds should be over 1.80 here, especially after how the first meeting between the two went. Prediction: Iceland – Canada 2-0.
