Ingolstadt – Schalke

Huntelaar Schlake 2016 Bundesliga

Ingolstadt will host Schalke 04 in a Bundesliga clash that has much more meaning for the visitors. However, the resilient home side proved to be no pushover this season.

Currently 10th in the standings, Ingolstadt doesn`t have much left to fight for, as they are almost surely safe from relegation. The hosts didn`t win too many games recently, but they did well to hold on to draws, which is not a surprise given their feisty nature and organized style of football. In the last 5 matches Ingolstadt claimed 4 draws before falling 1-2 last round against third placed Hertha Berlin. Ingolstadt has not lost at home in 2016.

Schalke was bounced out of the Top 4 after Leverkusen’s win on Friday, but the visitors will be eager to get right back into the Champions League mix with a victory today. Schalke has been pretty solid lately, claiming 3 wins in the last 4 matches, including a 2-1 win over Gladbach before the International Break. Their only loss in March was at the hands of Hertha, in Berlin.

Team news & lineups:

Soares and Levels will not be in Ingolstadt’s lineup, while Schalke will miss Nastasic, Howedes, Uchida, Hoger and possibly Goretzka.

Ingolstadt: Ozcan – Costa, Hubner, M. Matip, Bauer – Gross, Roger, Morales – Hartmann, Leckie, Hinterseer

Schalke 04: Fahrmann – Caicara, J. Matip, Neustadter, Aogo – Goretzka, Geis – Sane, Meyer, Belhanda – Huntelaar

Schalke 04 is getting good results lately and they are playing well, but it’s not like they look invincible. Traveling to Ingolstadt will be far from easy and Schalke will have to work hard against a good defensive team that does not give anything for free.

Sure, the hosts are not winning games lately and against an opponent of Schalke’s caliber they seem very unlikely to claim the three points. But Ingolstadt knows all to well how to play for the draw and they are undefeated at home in 2016, in 7 matches (all competitions). A close, rugged game seems on the cards.

I reckon Schalke will have to settle for a draw here, but I will place my bet with insurance in case the visitors manage to pull off a victory. As such, my tip is Draw – Schalke win no bet. Prediction: Ingolstadt – Schalke 1-1.

Pick: Draw – Schalke win no bet
Odds: 2.00 @ Bwin

  1. As far as I am concerned, it will be a close match. Schalke fights for Champions League and Ingolstadt to avoid the relegation. Good luck!
