Inter Milan – Fiorentina

Inter Fiorentina betting previewThe visitors did not beat Inter at San Siro since 2000, but history is not so relevant, as things are different this season.

Inter can be more than happy with their start in the Serie A. Walter Mazzari`s side amassed a total of 10 points in 4 rounds, the only ‘hiccup’ being a draw at champions Juventus. Last round Inter beat Sassuolo 7-0 away from home! The good run is pretty surprising considering that the Nerazzuri have one of the worst squads in recent years. It seems that Mazzari really is a top quality manager. There are some discussions at administrative level regarding ownership, with Moratti being in talks with some asian investors. This could affect the squad, at least on short-term.

Fiorentina has high expectations this season. The Viola side has splashed the cash and they brought in some top players in the transfer window. The visiting side is undefeated so far in Serie A, being tied with Inter for points (10). La Viola looked very sharp in front of goal so far, creating lots of chances and seemingly scoring at will. Fiorentina also achieved qualification to the Europa League group stages, where they cruised past Pacos Ferreira in the opener, 3-0.

Team news & Lineups

Chivu, Zanetti and Mariga are unavailable for Inter. Fiorentina will not be able to count on Hegazy, Cuadrado, Pizzaro, Iakovenko and, most of all, Mario Gomez. The ex-Bayern star is nursing a knee inury and he is a big blow for the visitors. Despite this, Fiorentina has Giuseppe Rossi available up front in clinical form, so that is good news for them.

Inter Milan: Handanovic; Jonathan, Campagnaro, Ranocchia, Nagatomo; Juan, Cambiasso; Guarin, Alvarez; Milito, Palacio

Fiorentina: Neto; Rodriguez, Pasqual, Tomovic, Savic; Ambrosini, Aquilani; Joaquin, Valero, Wolski; Rossi

No matter how impressive Inter were so far, the reality is they do not have the talent to challenge for the top spots this season and they will fade away sooner or later. Aging players and unproven talent do not make a Serie A contender and after some good performances the hosts could be set for a letdown against one of the best teams in the league. Actually, excluding the home draw against Juve (who drew with Copenhaga right after the Inter game), the Nerazzuri had really poor opposition so far. Inter just wants to rebuild the squad this season, while the visitors have big ambitions. Fiorentina is playing super solid at the moment and they have the quality to keep up this level for the whole season. Inter will find it hard to approach this game at home, if they go offensive they will be punished on counters, if they adopt a cautious tactic they could find themselves dominated. This is the first time this season when Inter plays a good team that is in good form and has no other distractions.

Expect “La Viola” to expose Inter`s weaknesses and get at least a draw on San Siro. My pick is 1-1 or 1-2 for the Firenze side.
