Two big servers in Jack Sock and Sam Groth will square off in the Wimbledon first round today.
Sock isn`t exactly known as a great grass court player, but his style is perfectly suited for the surface. He already has good results on the green and as he gets older, he will surely be a force on the surface. The American didn’t play any tournaments on grass after his excellent performance at the French Open, but he did get used with the surface in the Boodles exhibition, where he defeated Tommy Robredo and Fernando Verdasco without losing a set.
Big Sam Groth probably expected more from his grass court campaign so far, as he can be considered an expert on the surface and he has that massive serve to help him out. He didn’t play bad at all, but not great either – only managing to defeat Stakhovsky, Lopez and Mischa Zverev, losing to Troicki and Sousa in the pre – Wimbledon tournaments.

The two players never met before on tour. Both are big servers, but Sock also has a more accomplished all around game, while Groth’s serve is better – after all, he does hold the record for the fastest ever serve.
Both guys will be looking to stabilize their game in the first round, find rhythm on serve and obviously win the match. We can surely expect a number of tiebreaks between these two considering their massive serves plus the surface being faster in the first days. I reckon the first set has the most chances to see one – as both will be looking to start solid, keep serve and not fall behind. Being the first direct meeting, it will also be very hard for any of them to read the opponents’ huge serve at the beginning of the match.
My tip is a first set tiebreak and 7 units seems like a reasonable stake to invest on this bet. Prediction: Jack Sock – Sam Groth 6-7 6-4 7-6 7-6.
