Jerzy Janowicz hopes to defend his semifinal from last last season, but this years’ Wimbledon has been very tough for him and he will have to overcome another big hurdle, as the experienced Tommy Robredo is looking to reach the 4th round at SW19 for just the first time in his career.
I really thought that Janowicz will go out against Hewitt in the last round after he struggled with Devvarman in his Wimbledon opener, but the Pole managed to pull off another 5 set win, albeit Hewitt was really disappointing and was not able to produce his best level of tennis. Janowicz had a very poor year by his standards, poor form and did not look good coming into this tournament, but he showed good character so far and will hope to improve his level against Tommy Robredo. He already showed glimpses of what he can do in the Hewitt match.

Robredo hates grass, that`s a fact. In his prodigious career he never passed the 3rd round at this tournament, and that says a lot. He wasn’t particularly impressive this year either, but poor opposition in the form of Lacko and Mannarino allowed him to reach the 3rd round, losing just 1 set along the way. Nevertheless, Robredo showed surprisingly good tennis on the surface and if he manages to replicate his performance he will give Janowicz a lot of trouble considering the matchup.
This will be the first meeting between the two. It will be a clash of styles between Jerzy’s attacking game and Robredo’s steady baseline play.
Like Hewitt, Robredo has the baseline play and defending skills to force errors from Janowicz. However, Hewitt was in poor form, while Robredo is playing well, and I expect this to make a difference. Robredo is not the most skilled player on grass but his experience should help him frustrate an all out attacking player who is not in his best form and is blasting unforced errors all over the place. The two five setters Janowicz played so far could have an impact on his fitness, so all in all I reckon Robredo to win is a solid choice here, he is the more stable player, played good tennis this week and Janowicz is not to be trusted.
