Kenya – Namibia

Wanyama Kenya NamibiaBoth teams are already out of contention for a qualifying spot and will fight for pride in the last game of group F of the African World Cup qualifications. Namibia previously won 1-0 at home over Kenya in this group and they are placed 3rd with 5 points, while the hosts are dead last with only 3 points.

Kenya is currently in a rebuilding process, but they still have a solid team with many first class players. They deserved more than the 3 points they gained in this group (three draws – twice with Malawi, once with Nigeria), as they should have won 1-2 games, they were even close to beat Nigeria away after leading 1-0 at halftime. For this game the hosts have brought in their best european players, and the squad is highlighted by ex- Celtic and current Southampton man, Wanyama. Kenya is a proud footballing country and they can`t accept finishing below Namibia, so this game is viewed as being very important. The hosts are one of the best teams in Africa when playing in their own country. Home court advantage is huge on this continent anyway, and Kenya is one of the toughest country to play in. Many top teams have fallen here, and the hosts should again make use of the home court advantage today.

Kenya is clearly a better team than Namibia and while they try to rebuild the team, they are also desperate not to finish last. The hosts are very motivated for a win here and with their best european players in the squad they should have too much for this Namibia side. The visitors mostly have players from the Namibian domestic league with basically only one professional european-based players in the roster.

Expect territorial domination from the hosts, with over 60% possession. With top scorer Oliech (Ajaccio) leading the front line, Kenya should have enough to penetrate the Namibian defensive line and create some clear goal scoring chances. The visitors only scored 2 goals in the 5 games so far and they are scoreless away, so they should not pose much offensive threat today, especially considering that Kenya is a good defensive team.

Pick Kenya to win, my call would be 2-0 for the hosts today. Home court advantage should be the deciding factor if class alone will not be enough.
