Legia Warsaw will host Romanian “new boys on the block” FC Botosani. Everybody knows Legia, strong team, was eliminated ridiculously from CL qualifiers by Celtic (or by UEFA) last year, went on to play Europa League, played it quite well, got past the group stage. Legia however is not quite the strongest team in Poland anymore, finishing second last year and i am not very sure they will be as focused as they need to be in order to defeat Botosani.
Botosani comes from Moldova, in the north-east of Romania. They qualified from 8th spot because the teams ahead of them that were eligible for Europa League did not meet the financial requirements (Petrolul, Dinamo, Craiova, CFR). But don’t get me wrong, Botosani is not worse than any of these teams, at least not now. Petrolul and CFR were strong last year, until they started having financial problems, but if CFR or Petrolul were to go in Europe now, they would make a fool of themselves. Meanwhile, Botosani grew stronger since last year.

Botosani’s strength is their financial stability and good organization in the club structure. The salaries are paid on time, the owner is not in jai l(never was in jail in fact, which is nice for Romanian football) and the coach is not some 60 year old communist old-school coach. So a healthy football club overall.
But Botosani has problems as well. Their defence is really, really naive, just look at the problems they had with the Georgian side they eliminated in the first round. But i think that had a lot to do with relaxation and due to the fact that those were the first matches of the season for Botosani. Now i think Botosani will be 100%, and they will not lose by more than 1 goal.
My prediction is Botosani to cover a +1,25 asian handicap in this Europa League second qualifying round first leg. This is the second match of the season for Legia (lost Supercup to Lech), while Botosani played 3 already.
