Leicester – Newcastle

Leicester Newcastle betting previewThe resurgent Leicester City will take on crumbling Newcastle United at King Power Stadium.

Leicester’s incredible run of 4 consecutive wins could only be stopped by Chelsea on Wednesday, but even in that 1-3 loss the Foxes were still impressive – leading 1-0 at half time, generally matching Chelsea throughout the game and only losing via two goals in the last 10 minutes. The previous 3 wins took Leicester City from the last place in the Premier League to a non-relegationg 17th place, but they are still only 1 point above the red zone and Sunderland has a game in hand (against Arsenal), so the situation is still very dangerous. However, there is incredible optimism and excitement around the Leicester camp – because of recent results but also because they have a dream schedule in the 4 rounds remaining: Newcaste, Southampton, Sunderland and QPR, playing three of these matches at home.

Newcastle has been an absolute disaster since Alan Pardew left, with John Carver unable to find any king of answers. Newcastle is on a 7 game losing streak – including 2-3 at home to Swansea last round – and looking at their level of football, the results are really not that surprising. The defense is in shambles and the offense is way to dependent on Papiss Cisse, who will be suspended for this game – a monumental loss. Newcastle finds itself dragged into the relegation fight after the recent horrible run, standing on the 14th place, just 5 points over Sunderland and 4 over Leicester.

Team news & lineups:

Nugent continues to be unavailable for Leicester, while Huth and King will see late fitness tests. Newcastle will welcome back Sissokho, but the list of absentees remains a huge issue for Carver’s side – Cisse, Tiote, Haidara, Alnwick, Aarons and S. Taylor are out, while Janmaat and Dummett are doubtful.

Leicester City: Schmeichel – De Laet, Wasilewski, Morgan, Kochesky – Albrighton, Cambiasso, James, Drinkwater – Ulloa, Vardy

Newcastle United: Krul – Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Anita – Colback, Sissoko, Gutierrez, Cabella – Perez, Riviere

This is a must win game for Leicester, it could really put them in a solid spot to avoid relegation, while Newcastle will also be desperate for at least a point but will again have to field a weakened lineup. Leicester’s match against Chelsea was arguably even more telling than their streak of 4 wins in a row – to put on such a good performance despite eventually losing and to do it against Chelsea was a very good sign that Leicester is not likely to suffer another drop in form. I can see the Foxes keeping this up and they should be able to take care against a Newcastle side that has been absolutely horrid under Carver.

Leicester scored 11 goals in the last 6 matches and looks very likely to bang in a couple against the catastrophical defense of Newcastle, while the Magpies don`t represent much of an offensive threat without their top goalscorer Papiss Cisse. My tip is Leicester to win. Prediction: Leicester City – Newcastle United 2-1.
