Leicester – Sevilla

Leicester Sevilla betting preview

Leicester City will play one of the biggest matches in their history, as they attempt to come back from a 1-2 first leg deficit against Sevilla at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes have been very good this season in the Champions League, winning all their home matches and even in their worst form, they still got a good result against Sevilla in the first leg – which was Ranieri’s last match in charge. Since then, Leicester has been rejuvenated under Ranieri’s old assistant, Craig Shakespeare. The hosts won two matches in a row, both at home and both 3-1 – against Liverpool and Hull.

Sevilla is undefeated since January, but the visitors are coming after two poor results in a row – drawing with Alaves and Leganes. Both were matches Sevilla should have won, but they could not score more than 1 goal in either of them. Those 4 points lost sent them out of the title race and Sevilla will not want to blow the Champions League as well.

Team news & lineups:

Mendy is out for Leicester, while Slimani is again questionable. Expect Leicester’s classic 4-4-2 in this game, with Ndidi instead of Kante being the only change to their title winning lineup. Sevilla will miss Krohn-Dehli and Tremoulinas.

Leicester City: Schmeichel – Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs – Albrighton, Drinkwater, Ndidi, Mahrez – Okazaki, Vardy

FC Sevilla: Rico – Mariano, Rami, Mercado, Escudero – N’Zonzi, Iborra – Sarabia, Nasri, Vitolo – Jovetic

Both teams have the ability to score goals and the first leg was a pretty good game of football, but chances are we won`t see many fireworks in this reverse leg.

Not only are the stakes high, but the first leg result looks favorable for a low scoring second leg. A potential early goal, no matter who scores it, doesn`t seem like it could break the game open. Sevilla would of course be comfortable with a 1-0 lead, while Leicester would still have plenty of time to come back – and would know that allowing a second would be a disaster in their quest to qualify.

Sevilla has not conceded a goal on the road in the Champions League this season and has a magnificent goal difference of 1-0 after traveling to Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb and Lyon. Also, Sevilla is struggling to score goals right now – 6 of their last 8 matches ended with under 2,5 goals, including the last three.

As for Leicester, it`s fair to expect a cautious approach. Shakespeare has reverted to the same system and lineup used last year by Ranieri, which very often produced pragmatic 1-0 wins on home court. In such a big match, you would expect Leicester to play that way again.

Given all the stats and facts, I can see a low scoring game here. The odds are absolutely great and we can even afford to buy security in case 3 goals will be scored, still at a good price. I expect an under 2.5, but I`m happy to bet the under 3 for extra safety.

My tip is under 3 goals to be scored. Prediction: Leicester City – FC Sevilla 1-1.
