Leicester – West Brom

Jamie Vardy Claudio Ranieri

Leicester City will try to claim a much needed win at the King Power Stadium against relegation candidates West Bromwich Albion, in the 11th round of the Premier League.

Leicester has struggled so far in the league, currently sitting on the 13th place after Saturday’s matches. A win today would see them climb back up into the Top 10, so expect Ranieri’s men to be desperate for points. For all of Leicester’s struggles in the league this season, they have played great in Europe so they are not necessarily in poor form. Also, even in the Premier League, they are undefeated at home – 3 wins, 2 draws and only 2 goals conceded. They have not lost at home (in regular time) in other competitions either.

West Brom is playing some of the worst football in the Premier League right now. The visitors have won just once in the last 10 matches in all competitions. They also failed to win in their last 5 matches, including 2 defeats in a row – though losing to Liverpool and Man City in the last two rounds can`t be held against them. WBA is on the 17th place at the moment and their situation will become complicated if they don`t win points in this clash.

Team news & lineups:

Leicester continues to miss Mendy, but the big news is that Kasper Schmeichel is out. Slimani and James are doubtful, but Slimani should play. West Brom will have to do without McClean and Chadli, while Berahino and Olsson are questionable.

Leicester City: Zieler – Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs – Albrighton, Amartey, Drinkwater, Mahrez – Vardy, Slimani (Okazaki)

West Bromwich Albion: Foster – Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Nyom – Fletcher, Yacob – Leko, Morrison, Brunt – Rondon

Leicester City did play Champions League football midweek so some might think about the possible European hangover effect – but actually the more important thing is that Leicester will not play in Europe next week, so they can really focus on this match. Ranieri always stated that Champions League is the priority, so Leicester may play it cool before UCL matches, but not after them.

Leicester played 4 matches in Champions League this season. They have 3 losses and 1 draw in the games played BEFORE Champions League football. In the games played AFTER Champions League football, they have 2 wins and 1 draw (this will be the 4th game). These stats support my above statement.

Leicester needs the points in the league and they will be very motivated to win this. I believe they have plenty of quality to defeat this out of form West Brom side (which misses its arguably 2 best players). I think the Foxes will do just that and get the 3 points – especially at home, where Leicester is undefeated this season in all competitions. My tip is Leicester City to win. Prediction: Leicester City – West Brom 2-0.
