Liverpool – Basel

This is the final of the group, qualification is at stake. Real Madrid already qualified from #1 place. Basel with 6 points, Liverpool with 4, Ludogorets also with 4 points but they face Mission Impossible on the Santiago Bernabeu.

Liverpool has been bad all season long, the only think that has improved slightly in the last matches is the defense. They kept a clean sheet vs Sunderland but were terribly uninspired in offence. Balotelli has finally fallen out of grace with Rodgers but who can replace him. Lallana and Lambert have been poor so all eyes will be on Borini if he makes the first 11. Borini is a player i like a lot and i feel he did not get enough playing time this season. He is quick, clever and has that final touch, a good finisher. Most of all he is hard working (learn from him Balo!) and also he has more “class” than Lambert or Lallana.

Basel are coached by Paulo Sousa, a young coach that so far finished 2nd in Hungary with Videoton and won the league in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv. Both Videoton and Maccabi Tel Aviv are powerhouses in their own country, so is Basel in Switzerland so it’s hard to say if he is a great coach or not. Last year Basel did well to beat Chelsea 2 times in the group stages, played good football, but it was a different coach.

Now i think Basel will not have enough to avoid defeat to Liverpool, even though the Reds are playing poor football. I think Borini will start and Coutinho and Sterling will be too good for Basel. My tip is Liverpool to win at odds 1.80 @ William Hill and achieve qualification.
