Lorient – PSG

Lorient would love to get a point here to put more distance between them and the relegation zone but PSG is the odds on favorite to win, for obvious reasons.

Lorient is 8 points clear of the relegation zone and is sitting comfortably on the 12th place in the standings. The home team however is not in the best form at the moment – losing 4 out of the last 6 games – including a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Sochaux in the last round in Ligue 1. On the bright side, Lorient played great football at home this season, losing just twice, drawing five and winning seven for a 7-5-2 statline. But all the stats could count for nothing today as team news are horrible for Lorient. The hosts have big selection issues, missing 5 players (Quercia, Barthelme, Guerreiro, Gassama and Sunu) + 2 other game-time decisions (Coutadeur, Diallo). Except Quercia, all these are key players or in the first team picture.

PSG pretty much has the title on lock after the last few rounds and has 8 points in front of second placed Monaco. The visitors are on fire at the momment – winning the last 7 official games and qualifying in the UCL quarters after a demolition of Leverkusen (6-1 aggregate). They just won 2-0 vs. St. Ettienne last round. Team news are excellent for PSG: no sure absentees, only van der Wiel is questionable. In-form Ibrahimovic will lead the attacking lines again and Cavani will start for the third time since returning from injury – and he is expected to finally be at his best.

Lorient is a strong team at home for sure but with all the squad problems they have it is very hard to see them getting something against a healthy PSG side which is in devastating form – after all Lorient does not exactly have too much depth in the roster. I see PSG easily controlling possession and creating a number of chances along the way, from which surely a couple of goals must be scored. Paris won 4-0 at home earlier this season so odds about 1.50 on PSG to win today seem very tasty. My tip is PSG -1 handicap. Regarding a correct score prediction, I see something like Lorient – Paris SG 0-2.
