Maccabi Tel Aviv hosts Maribor in the Champions League 3rd qualifying round second leg, but the game will not be played in Israel, it will be played in Cyprus. Maribor got a late 1-0 result in the first leg and is now the favorite to qualify, but that was not really a correct score for that match.
Maccabi is the best team in Israel, they have a really good roster and added some very good players this year. Their objective is to play in the Champions League group stages but are now in a bad spot after the loss in the first leg. But Maccabi did not play bad at all in Slovenia, they held more of the ball and had some chances but received a goal in the last second. The Israeli league has not started but Maccabi played 2 games against Santa Coloma in the previous UCL round and won both (1-0, 2-0).

Maribor played 2 matches in the Slovenian league, won them both, but opposition there is poor and they had problems to qualify vs. Zrinjski in the 2nd UCL qual. round. Maribor recorded only a 0-0 draw away and won 2-0 at home but had really big problems against the Bosnians. The visitors are a team who likes to defend and hit on counters, this tactic brought them great success last season when they reached the Europa League Round 32 (just like Maccabi). But just like in the first leg this year, Maribor had a lot of luck last season with some late goals and getting results in games they were totally outplayed.
Even though the game will be played in Cyprus, Maccabi will still have most of the fans and will feel a small home court advantage as the organizing team. They have a much better squad than Maribor and I don’t think the Slovenians will get another lucky break today. Maccabi will hold the ball, put pressure and surely they will score once or twice. Maribor will try to hit on the breaks but very importantly is that they would be satisfied with a 1 goal loss (2-1, 3-2, probably 1-0); it would be a result that at least sends them to extra time. So with this in mind I think Maccabi to win is a safe bet. I don’t know if they can qualify, but the simple win looks good and the odds are also good. Correct score prediction: Maccabi Tel Aviv – Maribor 2-0.

I think you bring some good arguments … also some I can say are not relevant … they have matches under their belt … Maribor is not in middle of the league either. New players are good, team is good. Racist chants … I don’t think they will have much impact. New coach and neutral venue are problems I admit, issues in Israel can go both ways but they could be a problem also. All in all I don;t exclude Maribor to qualify, but 2-1 also wins the bet. GL.
