Malmo put on a good performance in Austria. They had only 38% possession but that was expected even by their coach … they were dangerous when they had the ball, made good counterattacks and scored a crucial goal in the 90+1 minute to keep the tie alive. Malmo made a big surprise at home in the previous round when they beat Sparta Prague 2-0 after 2-4 away and will hope to do the same. They will have confidence because Sparta was exactly the same kind of team like Salzburg and in the same kind of form. Needless to say Malmo is dominating the Swedish league and are almost champions this year again.

Salzburg is scoring goals for fun, they are maybe the most offensive minded team in Europe. They made an impact last year in Europa League scoring 6 goals in 2 games against Ajax and this season they added more quality to the front line. Stats in Bundesliga for Salzburg this season are out of this world … 6 matches, 6 wins, 29-1 goal difference. But even so Salzburg was less dominant than expected in Europe … had problems vs. Qarabag (3-2 agg.) and now take in Sweden only a slim advantage.
Both teams like to play attacking football so the odds for the over 2,5 goals are very low, but I think actually we will see a surprise here, a low scoring match. Fact is that Malmo is a very good defensive team as well and the way they held Sparta Prague scoreless at home last round will give them a boost to play the same kind of match. For sure Malmo will try to keep a clean sheet, be patient, and force towards the end. Salzburg will try to score, it’s their philosophy, but getting past the Malmo defense in Sweden won’t be so easy. Malmo did not lose or allow a goal in the last 6 home matches in Europe. Under 3 goals looks like good value and might be a winning bet, for sure better value in the odds than trembling for an over 2,5 at a price of 1.50 like in the first leg. My tip is under 3 goals.
