Man City – Aston Villa

Raheem Sterling Manchester City

Manchester City will take on Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium, with the hosts needing a win if they are to keep their title challenge alive. They are 10 points behind Leicester, but have a game in hand. Protecting a Top 4 spot is also important, with Man United closing in.

The hosts are on the back of a 0-3 defeat against Liverpool, coming right after they beat ‘Pool in the League Cup final via penalties – but that was a poor game from City as well. Man City has now lost the last 3 games in the Premier League, so the team is not playing well, that is the fact. Fortunately for City, the crazy results in the recent rounds still keep them in with a slim chance to win the title, but they obviously need to get it going right away.

Aston Villa is on the back of another poor result, a 1-3 loss at home to Everton, even though their performance was almost decent. It was the 5th loss in the last 6 games for Villa and 4 of them came by a form of handicap. The defense has been absolutely atrocious in all of these losses. With 16 points gained in 28 rounds, the visitors are 8 points behind the first place which assures safety and relegation seems a certainty unless a miracle happens.

Team news & lineups:

City will only miss De Bruyne, Nasri and Delph. Aston Villa won`t have Traore and Amavi in the lineup. They also might miss Kozak, Grealish and / or Sanchez, all questionable.

Manchester City: Hart – Sagna, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy – Fernando, Toure – Navas, Silva, Sterling – Aguero

Aston Villa: Guzan – Richards, Clark, Lescott – Bacuna, Hutton, Cissokho, Westwood, Gana – Ayew, Agbonlahor

Manchester City is not playing well right now, that`s for sure, but they remain a quality team and I can see their potent offense creating havoc in Villa’s pathetic defense. The way Villa is defending, City should really be able to score more than 2 goals at home against them.

Look for the hosts to start strong, they absolutely need a win and need a convincing one as well, to gain confidence. Villa does not seem likely to upset anybody at the moment, let alone Man City at Etihad. Simple bet here, my tip on this clash is Manchester City to win and cover the 1,5 goal handicap.

The odds are not great at about 1.60, but they are more than fair (currently dropping pretty fast) and can definitely be taken for a singles bet. I reckon a high stake of 9 units is recommended. Prediction: Manchester City – Aston Villa 3-0.

Pick: Man City (-1,5)
