Man Utd – Sunderland

Manchester United Sunderland Premier League preview

Manchester United will look to continue the recent good spell against a Sunderland team that is leaking goals from seemingly every position right now.

United wasn`t particularly impressive in this start of the season in terms of the level of football on offer, but even so the Devils are finding themselves on the second place in the Premier League right now and winning 7 out of 10 matches in all competitions. Manchester United is also in decent form, coming after two wins against Southampton and Ipswich, scoring 3 times in each game. Goals are clearly not a problem for Van Gaal’s side recently, as United failed to score just once this season in all competitions – and that was in a hugely unlucky 0-0 draw with Newcastle, when the Devils had tons of clear cut chances.

Sunderland is dead last in the Premier League at the current moment with just 2 points in the first 6 rounds, despite having a pretty interesting roster. The Black Cats have been abysmal at the back, conceding an average of over two goals per game, including 4 at home at the hands of Manchester City midweek in the League Cup – the third successive loss for Dick Advocaat’s side in all competitions. The under pressure Dutch manager will surely feel that the visit to Old Trafford is not coming at the best moment.

Team news & lineups:

Shaw and Rojo are out for United, with McNair being questionable. Sunderland will not have Matthews in the lineup, but Defoe and Rodwell might also miss out on the game.

Man United: De Gea – Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Darmian – Carrick, Schneiderlin – Mata, Rooney, Depay – Martial

Sunderland: Pantilimon – Yedlin, Kaboul, Coates, van Aanholt – M’Vila, Cattermole – Toivonen, Lens, Larsson – Borini

The Black Cats will be looking to repeat the story of the 2013-2014 season, when an abysmal start was eventually saved and they escaped relegation. However, things are looking as bleak as they can be right now and they surely need more time to set things right, judging by their latest poor performances against Bournemouth and Manchester City. Looking at Manchester United’s strength up front and Sunderland’s horrible defense, I reckon it`s pretty safe to expect the Devils to cover the 1 goal handicap here.

Look for United to dominate from the outset and they should be able to put 2-3 goals past this goal-leaking Sunderland team, while keeping a clean sheet at the same time. The visitors are just unable to get anything going, so my tip is Manchester United to cover the 1,5 goal handicap with a solid 8 unit stake. All in all a pretty simple bet, but it should very well do the job for us. Prediction: Manchester United – Sunderland 3-0.

  1. Dick Advocaat has a lot of good players at his disposal, Mvila, Lens, but he just can’t make Sunderland work.

  2. Very, very well… You picked the right score… Congratulations…
