Kyrgios exploded in early June in the grass court season and his emergence has not stopped since than. The big serving, big hitting Australian is clearly one of the brightest talents in tennis and I am impressed with the fact that he managed to remain consistent after his quarterfinal showing at Wimbledon. Indeed, Nick had a couple of ups and downs, but generally remained consistent and he`s in very good form right now after reaching the 3rd round at US Open (played a great match with Robredo) and beating Istomin in 3 sets in Davis Cup.
The H2H is 0-0, it will be the first meeting between the two Australians.
Odds on Kyrgios to win are going downhill every minute and I do agree that Nick should overpower Matosevic here, but I don`t think it will be an easy game. Marinko knows how to play in these conditions, he`s a good player overall and his serve is good enough to keep him in the match against a rather poor returner. Both guys are great servers, both guys are playing good tennis, so in these fast conditions at Kuala Lumpur I expect a tight match with a tiebreak and maybe 3 sets. Also, it`s very interesting that this will be Kyrgios` last tournament of the year – he declared himself fatigued physically and mentally, so maybe he will not be in his absolute best shape, increasing the chances for Matosevic to stay close (or even win it, but surely not easy). My tip is over 22,5 games at great odds by Unibet. The danger here would be a 7-6 6-3, but there`s no bet without risk. I can see a Kyrgios win in 3 sets so I`ll go with pretty high stakes on the over. Prediction: Marinko Matosevic – Nick Kyrgios 4-6 7-6 3-6.
