Mexico – Ecuador

Mexico came with a B-squad here in Chile for the Copa America. Their squad does not have Carlos vela, Chicharito, Herrera, Moreno, Guardado, Gio dos Santos, Jonathan dos Santos or Guillermo Ochoa. Still, they did well, with a 0-0 draw vs Bolivia and a 3-3 draw vs Chile.

Ecuador is rock bottom, with 0 points, but they still could qualify, if other results go their way. But first they must win this game and finish above Mexico in the group. Ecuador can not finish higher than 3rd place, but if they are one of the best ranked teams from the 3rd places, they can qualify. At the moment in the other group, Peru has 3 pts after 2 games and in the other group, Uruguay is in 3rd with 3 pts. But Uruguay will probably get at least 1 point from the game vs Paraguay, so Ecuador must win and hope Peru does not get any points in their match against Colombia … tricky scenario, but i think the Ecuadorians will give their best.

I think we should look at goals here. It’s pretty hard to see Mexico defending, first because they also need a win, it is very hard to qualify with just 3 points and also because their squad does not allow them to do so. Ecuador will attack because of obvious reasons, their strength lies in attack and they have 0 points, so caution can be thrown out the window.

As things stand, I consider It is hard to expect anything else than an open game of football with both teams playing with a positive attitude and looking for the three points.
