Raonic – Murray

Raonic Murray betting preview

Milos Raonic and Andy Murray will square off in the second Australian Open semifinal, with the winner set to face an unleashed Novak Djokovic in the last act.

Raonic is playing at the top of his game right now, putting on some excellent performances in these last two weeks. The big serving Canadian is not just about serve, as he’s showing some excellent movement as well, improved net play, blistering forehand and a reliable, steady backhand. After winning his first three matches in straight sets, Milos defeated Wawrinka 3-2, proving some amazing mental strength to win the decider after Stan came back from 0-2 in sets. The Canadian followed that up with another great showing against Monfils, winning in 4 sets and controlling the match from start to finish.

Milos is currently riding a 9 match winning streak after also winning the Brisbane title in dominating fashion, beating Federer 2-0 in the final. The Canadian has taken that extra step this year and seems ready to challenge for a Grand Slam final, or even a title.

Andy Murray suffered a scare against Sousa in the third round and showed some weaknesses in a close 3 set win over Tomic in the 4th, but the Brit played his best match of the tournament in the quarters against David Ferrer. It was a great performance from Andy against a red hot player and he actually won more comfortable than the 3-1 score suggests. Despite not being at his absolute best so far, Murray has been playing well, raised his level when it counted most and we can expect him to reach his best level in these last two matches.

The Head 2 Head is tied at 3-3 (2-2 on hard). Murray won the only meeting last year in Madrid on clay, but the fact that he doesn’t even hold a slender lead in the Head 2 Head tells us that Raonic knows hot to play him.

Listen, Andy Murray has the class, form and experience to win this match, but you have to feel that Raonic also has a realistic shot at reaching the final if he keeps up the same level of tennis. I don’t think Murray was at his top level so far, while Raonic has played lights out all year, is full of confidence and has never played better.

Given Raonic’s form and the fact that he proved able to beat Murray multiple times in the past, I expect him to challenge the Brit and turn this match into a classic. The question for me is what bet to take, how much credit should we give Milos? When such a question arises, I always choose to go with the best value, so my tip here is Milos Raonic to win.

Andy Murray remains the desirving favorite, of course, but Raonic has more chances than the odds suggest and there’s value to be taken here. A +1,5 handicap on the Canadian would be my next, safer choice. Prediction: Milos Raonic – Andy Murray 7-6 3-6 4-6 7-5 6-4.
