Raonic – Nishikori

Milos Raonic Kei Nishikori betting previewBig serving Canadian Milos Raonic will take on Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the 4th round at Wimbledon, the second match of the day on Court 3.

I was impressed by Raonic this season, and the Canadian is really starting to look like a stable top 10 player who can challenge the top guys on any given day. Milos had some excellent performances and wins this year, he reached the quarters in Roland Garros on his least favorite surface (troubled Djokovic as well) and he played great tennis in Wimbledon so far. Milos is not exactly a grass court specialist, but he has improved his game a lot for this surface, moving much better, and his serve of course is a colossal weapon on the fast green. Raonic defeated Ebden, Sock and Kubot comfortably, without losing a set.

Just like Raonic, Nishikori is an emerging player himself. He`s more talented, more versatile, had an even better season than Raonic and has a better grass court game, but on the other hand the Japanese has much more problems than Raonic right now. He got injured in Madrid a few months ago and is not looking fully recovered, losing in the Roland Garros 1st round and than in the Halle semifinals. He improved a bit in Halle but is still not as his best level, it was obvious in his Wimbledon 3rd round match where he needed 5 sets to get past clay courter Bolelli, albeit Bolelli did play one of his best matches ever. Other victims for Nishikori at SW19 were De Schepper and Kudla (3 set win each time).

The H2H is 2-0 for Nishikori and he won no further than a couple of months ago in Madrid, but actually that win should worry him a bit. Kei barely pulled of a win via two tiebreaks, a tight victory when he played the best tennis of his life, at one of his best tournaments, on a surface that suited him much better than Raonic. Indeed he`s slightly better on grass as well, but just slightly. The two never met on the green.

Raonic’s serve was simply flawless in the first week, he allowed just one break point and conceded zero breaks. There`s not much that Nishikori can do on the return, so the Japanese will have to be very careful on his own serve just to reach tiebreaks. If he will have the same ups and downs he had in the Bolelli game, it will be big trouble, because Raonic will be able to create some opportunities and then run with the sets on serve. I can also see Milos a favorite in tiebreaks, as he`s a specialist. Simply put, the two players have similar quality, but Raonic is in better form, has played better tennis in Wimbledon and has that gigantic serve which will give him an important edge. I can`t see Nishikori winning this, so my tip is Raonic to win and I`ll go with big stakes on this bet. Odds are dropping on Milos, and for good reason. Prediction: Milos Raonic – Kei Nishikori 7-6 6-3 6-7 6-3.
