Raonic – Djokovic

Milos Raonic Novak Djokovic betting previewMilos Raonic and Novak Djokovic will meet in the Roland Garros quarterfinals, the 2nd match between them in the last month. They played a very tight game in Rome, so everything is set for an entertaining spell of tennis today on the 3rd of June.

Raonic is having the best season of his career so far and he has played surprisingly good tennis on clay. The big serving canadian reached the quarterfinals at Monte Carlo and the semifinals at Rome, defeating players like Robredo or Tsonga and also challenging Djokovic in Rome in a 7-6 6-7 3-6 loss. Milos continued his good run here at Roland Garros, easily dispatching inferior opposition like Vesely, Kyrgios or Granollers. He did have a lot of problems in the 3rd round against Simon, but the frenchman played a very good match for mosts parts of it.

Djokovic could hardly play any better at the moment. The Serbian is the most in-form player on the ATP tour, he is coming after a title at Rome (def. Nadal) and he has barely put a foot wrong in Roland Garros. Nole was utterly dominant in his road to the quarters, easily dispatching Sousa, Chardy, Cilic and Tsonga, despite losing a set in the 3rd round against Cilic. The Djoker will hope his top class return will help him neutralize Raonic’s serve, the main weapon for the Canadian.

This will be the third meeting between the two players. Djokovic is leading the H2H 2-0, both wins coming on clay. As previously stated, Raonic and Nole met less than one month ago in Rome and it was a very tight match.

I fully expect Djokovic to win this and he will probably do it in 3 sets, he`s just too good at the moment and Raonic is not yet at a Grand Slam semifinal level. However, the 6,5 game handicap line seems a little bit too high and it also has excellent odds. Raonic is surely one of the top 3 servers on tour and the fast clay in Paris is making his first ball very effective – Milos did not concede a break in his last match against Granollers. Indeed, Djokovic is arguably the best returner in the game and he will try to put pressure on Raonic, but to ask for more than 1 break per set is a big stretch. Raonic is playing the best tennis of his career, he should be able to reach at least a tiebreak and make this bet a winner. My tip is Raonic +6,5 handicap, also taking into consideration the way their last match in Rome played out. Prediction: Milos Raonic – Novak Djokovic 6-7 3-6 6-7.
