Newcastle – Arsenal

Newcastle Arsenal Premier League picks

Arsenal will look to bounce back on the road for a second time in a row after a negative result at home in the Premier League, but Newcastle will be pumped up after holding Manchester United to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Newcastle will look at last week’s draw against Man United with a lot of pride, but truth to be told, they were incredibly lucky to escape unbeaten. Manchester United actually played well, had many huge chances and should have one that with goals to spare – 2-0 or 3-0 being more accurate results than the 0-0 draw. It was only the second point in three rounds for Newcastle, but they backed it up with a 4-1 Cup win over Northampton midweek – so the Magpies will hope for better results from now on.

Arsenal could not overcome an inspired Liverpool at Emirates last week in a game that was really good, despite the 0-0 result. It was a match of two halves, with Liverpool having a lot of chances in the first and Arsenal coming back to clearly dominate the second. In the end it was a fair result, despite the Gunners having a goal wrongly disallowed. Arsenal failed to win or score at home for the second time in a row this season, but they bounced back brilliantly the previous time – defeating a very good Crystal Palace side away, 2-1. They really need to do it again this time, otherwise the title might already start to slip away from them.

Team news & lineups:

Newcastle continues to be hit hard by injuries: Dummett, Riviere, Marveaux, and Good are out, while Sissoko and de Jong are questionable. Arsenal will line up without Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky. Mertesacker and Koscielny missed the Liverpool game, but at least one of them should be back, probably Mertesacker.

Newcastle: Krul – Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini, Haidara – Colback, Anita – Wijnaldum, Thauvin, Tiote – Mitrovic (Cisse)

Arsenal: Cech – Bellerin, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Monreal – Coquelin, Cazorla – Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Sanchez – Giroud

In all honesty, Newcastle is looking poor this season and they will probably be very involved in the relegation battle. The draw against United is really misleading, Newcastle should have lost that game hands down and they did not do much in the other two rounds, losing with Swansea and drawing with Southampton. Arsenal looks very good this year and I reckon they will be able to bounce back on the road again after failing to win at home. Palace was a much tougher task than Newcastle two rounds ago and Arsenal passed that test with flying colors.

Too much quality for Arsenal, they are in good form, need a win badly and Newcastle is even worse than their results suggest. Also, their shaky defense will be a problem against an attacking side like the Gunners – it`s not a coincidence that Arsenal won the last 7 Head 2 Head meetings. My tip is a simple Arsenal win and I reckon this bet merits high stakes. Prediction: Newcastle – Arsenal 1-2.
