Kyrgios – Robredo

Nick Kyrgios Tommy Robredo betting previewLate pick this one, with the match set to start in about 6 hours, but there`s still enough time and I wouldn`t want to miss the bet, so here goes the analysis: short and concise.

Kyrgios did well to pass Seppi in 3 sets in the second round after previously recording another big win against Youzhny. However, Youzhny was way off pace in the 1st round match while Seppi played poorly himself yesteray. Not to take anything from Nick, but his opponents were not playing their best tennis – however, the Australian deserves credit for putting on solid performances each time and he looks on track to back up his quarterfinal showing at Wimbledon. He did not have any success after SW19, but his strong serving and strong forehands seem to appear out of nowhere at Grand Slams.

Robredo had a fantastic US hard court season so far. It came as a surprise, as the Spaniard is getting old and he preffers clay, but Tommy defeated the likes of Kohlschreiber, Simon, Sock, Querrey and even Djokovic in Toronto and Cincinnati – his losses coming in two thrillers with Dimitrov and Ferrer. Tommy is moving amazing, he`s serving pretty well and of course he is not making too many unforced errors – consistency being one of the keys to his game. Here at the US Open he easily defeated Roger Vasselin before coming back from 0-2 in sets to defeat Bolleli – a bit of a letdown from Tommy at first but Bolleli played amazing tennis for 3 sets.

Surely Robredo will be fired up by his comeback against Bolleli and I reckon he has everything he needs to knock out Kyrgios today. Tommy`s baseline-defensive brand of tennis will frustrate the big hitting Australian, who is very unforced error – prone. Kyrgios still has a lot of work to do to prove himself and to be trusted, he will meet an opponent in top form for the first time in this tournament and I can`t see him getting the win. Robredo also has a good return which will work well against Nick and even more importantly his massive experience and amazing record in 5 setters (if it comes to 5 sets) will also make a big difference. My tip is Robredo to win, odds are going down like crazy on the Spaniard. It could be easy or it could be hard, but Robredo should win this. Prediction: Nick Kyrgios – Tommy Robredo 6-4 3-6 4-6 7-6 2-6.
