Jarry – Daniel

Jarry Daniel betting preview

Nicolas Jarry will take on Taro Daniel on Thursday night in the Winston-Salem quarterfinals, played on outdoor hard.

Jarry has been in top form recently, reaching the semifinals in the last two tournaments he played before Winston-Salem (Hamburg, Kitzbuhel). Those were on clay, so Winston-Salem was the first hard court event for Jarry in this second part of the season. That didn`t show, as the Chilean has been great this week. He had a bye in the first round and then went on to win easily against Seppi (6-4 6-3) and Struff (6-2 6-2).

Daniel started his US hard court season with a loss against Karlovic in the Cincinnati qualifiers and he wasn`t necessarily expected to do much damage here in Winston-Salem. However, Daniel got some excellent wins to reach the quarterfinals: beating Millman, Querrey and Koepfer. He lost just one set along the way (Querrey), but it has to be said that all three of Daniel`s wins were extremely close. The last three sets he played were all tiebreaks.

This will be the first H2H meeting between the two players. Both are better known for their results on clay, and Jarry actually had a losing record on hard courts before Winston-Salem (Daniel had good results on hard courts as well). But that shouldn`t be too important considering that Jarry played great tennis this week.

Jarry has been in excellent form for some time now, and the way he has been playing this week, it looks like he could be set for great things in this tournament. He has been extremely solid and consistent in dispatching two good players like Seppi and Struff.

Daniel had a tougher draw on paper and especially beating Querrey was a notable result, but fact is that Querrey has been in really poor form for quite some time. And while Daniel surely played well to reach this stage, he did show weaknesses. His wins were all close and hard fought (64 76 vs Millman, 36 75 76 vs Querrey and 76 76 vs Koepfler). One or two points here and there, and Daniel could have been out of the tournament in the earlier rounds.

Jarry just looks the more stable and in form player, both right now and long term. Daniel has played well this week, but not well enough to defeat a player like Jarry who is at the peak of his powers. Chances are that against such an in form player, Daniel won`t be able to successfully navigate the tiny margins which allowed him to escape with close wins in his past matches.

I believe Jarry will be more consistent than Daniel here and claim his 8th win in his last 10 matches. My tip will be Jarry to win. Prediction: Nicolas Jarry – Taro Daniel 6-7 6-3 6-2.
