The Australian Open last act is finally upon us, and nobody was more deserving to play it than these two warriors, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
Nole had the first and only scare of the tournament in the semis against Wawrinka, having some problems and losing his first two sets. Nole played a great match and recovered to win 6-0 in the decider, but at some points he was losing rhythm and making unforced errors, something he did not do in a flawless run to the semis. Nevertheless, Djokovic played an inspired Wawrinka who forced him into those moments with some fantastic attacking tennis.
Murray was looking like a potential finalist from the start of the tournament and he did not disappoint. The Scot is surely back in business after an average 2014 and he was excellent in dispatching the red hot Berdych in 4 sets in the semis. Great tennis from Andy, he has been very consistent in these last two weeks, but there`s still something missing – he lost that aggressiveness he had under Ivan Lends, when he won his two Grand Slams. As good as Andy is, he`s too passive at times, and that always hurt him against the big boys, particularly Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic leads the Head 2 Head 15-8 (13-6 on hard) and won the last 4 meetings, all of them last year. It`s true that Andy was not himself in 2014, but Nole still seems to hold a slight matchup advantage, as is shown by another relevant Head 2 Head fact: The Serbian won the last 7 meetings on hard courts.
Listen, Murray is playing some great tennis, but Djokovic has been the better player in this tournament. Nole looked impecable here at Melbourne and he did a great job of dispatching a fantastic Wawrinka in the semis, an opponent arguably even more dangerous than Murray because of the matchup. Look for an evenly matched duel from the baseline with each player winning about 50% of those grueling rallies – but Djokovic will be the slightly more aggressive player, determining forced errors and that will end up bringing him the Australian Open trophy for a 5th rime. Also, Murray`s weak second serve will again be an Achilles’ heel for the Scot against Djokovic.
My tip is Novak Djokovic to win. I fully expect Andy to put up a fight, but whether it will be easier or harder, I can not look past Djokovic to win here and I`m not surprised that the odds on him are dropping. Prediction: Novak Djokovic – Andy Murray 6-4 5-7 6-4 7-6.
