Djokovic – Federer

Djokovic Federer bet preview

It might be the real final of the Australian Open, but the meeting between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will “only” take place in the semis and the Djoker is rated as a 1.35 odds favorite to claim victory by the bookmakers.

As expected, Djokovic upped his level after his 4th round, 5 set scare against Simon (when he made 100 unforced errors) and cruised to a 3 set victory against Nishikori. Nole was much better, but it has to be said that Nishikori was way below his usual level. The Japanese number 1 could not replicate his previous performances, blew errors all over the place and chocked time after time. Still, Nole was excellent and it was a good win for him. We should expect an even better showing today from Nole.

Federer continues to play at a very high level, as he lost a single set so far in this tournament (against Dimitrov) and put on a show in the quarters against an in form Berdych. Roger is serving great and that is always a good indication of his level and if he is / is not in Grand Slam winning form. The way he’s playing right now, he surely has the chance to go all the way, but he has to solve the Djokovic riddle – something he could not do in the last 3 Grand Slam meetings, all finals.

Bet now on Djokovic – Federer with the highest Australian Open odds at 1xbet.com!

The Head 2 Head is tied at 22-22, but Djokovic has a huge psychological advantage after winning the last 3 Grand Slam meetings against a hopeful Roger Federer, also winning 3 straight year-end Masters finals against his rival. Normally Djokovic is a good matchup for Federer, unlike Nadal, but lately the Swiss was only able to defeat the Djoker in the less important matches.

Federer was playing brilliant tennis in the last three Grand Slams when he met Djokovic and in two of those finals (Wimbledon 2014 and US Open 2015) he played amazing in the finals as well. However, Djokovic was able to come out on top each time, so one has to wonder if Federer has what it takes to defeat Nole another time in a Grand Slam at his age. It’s a difficult question, as he can hardly play any better than he did in Wimbledon 2014 and US Open 2015. However, Federer stated that he worked on some new things to do against Djokovic in the off season.

I believe Djokovic will win this and the odds set by the bookies seem to be fair considering their recent Head 2 Head in Grand Slams. However, it will probably not be a walk in the park for the Serbian, as Federer is playing some great stuff and will surely be pumped up to finally claim another big win over Nole.

The under / over line is not too high at 40 games, a total that could be easily covered in 4 sets, as a tiebreak is likely to happen. Each of the last three Grand Slam meetings saw over 40 games being played and I expect a very similar scenario today. My tip is over 39,5 games and I can see the odds dropping a bit on this bet. Prediction: Novak Djokovic – Roger Federer 4-6 6-3 6-7 7-5 6-4.
