Wawrinka was in worrying form prior to London, but boy did he raise his level here! Stan played a near perfect match against Tomas Berdych in the first round robin match, blasting winners all over the place and making the Czech look like an amateur. Of course, Berdych was not at his best in the 1-6 1-6 drubbing, but still Stan’s game was impressive. He will look to build on that and keep the momentum going today against Novak Djokovic.

The H2H is an incredible 15-3 for Djokovic, but even more weird is the fact that Nole struggled lately against Wawrinka – from the last 5 matches, 3 went to five sets, and Stan won the last meeting this year at the Australian Open. Basically when Wawrinka is not in form he gets beat easily, but when he produces his best tennis, Stan is able to challenge Djokovic – similar to how Federer does.
I really liked how Wawrinka moved in his first match here and if he keeps up his level, surely he will trouble Djokovic big time. Usually Wawrinka is very streaky and when he starts the week in top form he keeps it up, so I expect nothing less than great tennis for him. Look for Djokovic to come out on top in the end, but it could be close and I can see him losing a set when Stan will put together 5-6 games of his absolute best tennis. My tip is Wawrinka to cover a 1,5 sets handicap and I trust my analysis with 6 units. Prediction: Novak Djokovic – Stan Wawrinka 6-2 4-6 6-3.
