Carreno-Busta – Daniel

Carreno Busta Daniel betting preview

Pablo Carreno-Busta will square off against Taro Daniel in the second round at Roland Garros.

Carreno-Busta is playing the best tennis of his career right now, finally breaking into the Top 20, and he has been solid on European clay. Carreno-Busta reached the third round in Monte Carlo and won the event in Estoril, claiming wins against players like Fognini, Almagro, Ferrer or Simon. Here in Paris he easily dispatched Florian Mayer in the first round, 6-4 6-2 6-2.

Taro Daniel has had a pretty good clay court season for his standards, but nothing out of the ordinary. He is on the back of a straight sets win against Jerzy Janowicz, but that does not say much considering the catastrophic form in which Janowicz is in. It was the 4th win at this French Open for Daniel, as he had to pass the qualification tournament, where he beat Moriya, Pecotic and Rublev. He almost lost against Rublev, but edged him out in a deciding set tiebreak.

Carreno-Busta leads the H2H 7-0 (!!), losing only 2 sets in his 7 meetings with Daniel. While many of those matches were in Futures events earlier in the careers of the two players, the H2H does speak volumes about the matchup.

Daniel just doesn`t have the game to create problems for Carreno-Busta. The two play a similar style of tennis, grinding out points from the baseline, but Carreno-Busta simply does everything better than Daniel. The Japanese has no particular weapon and his serve is poor, so there`s not much he can do to trouble a baseliner like Carreno-Busta.

Look for a lot of baseline rallies with Carreno Busta getting on top in most of them. I find it hard to believe Daniel can get the better of Carreno-Busta for an entire set, that would mean him dominating the rallies for at leas half an hour or so and that seems very unlikely. He`s also not likely to push a set to a tiebreak and steal it, due to his modest serve.

I can see a straight sets win here for the Spaniard, he shouldn`t have any problems dominating the game and he should find it easy to break the weak serve of Taro Daniel. This bet makes even more sense when you see that all of Carreno-Busta’s last 10 wins (!!) came in straight sets. He`s a consistent player who doesn`t mess around and when he`s better than the opponent, he does do job without any ups and downs.

My tip is Carreno Busta to win in straight sets. He`s the much better player, he`s in the form of his life and has a key matchup advantage. There are just too many things Daniel has to overcome and it would be a surprise if he even manages to push a set beyond 4-6. Prediction: Pablo Carreno-Busta – Taro Daniel 6-2 6-1 6-4.
