NO Pelicans at UTA Jazz

NO Pelicans UTA Jazz betting previewNew Orleans has changed more than its name this summer, and the young enthusiastic side will be looking for a win when they visit NBA`s current worst team.

Utah has parted ways with its best players before the season in an attempt to relieve cap space, give youth a chance and put themselves in a solid position to bring in some top talent next summer (via free agency and / or draft). Jazz has no particular motivation at the moment, they would be satisfied with a poor record that would put them in a great position to acquire one of the potential superstars that will be up for grabs in one of the best draft classes in history next year. Utah has lost all games so far, including to lowly sides like Phoenix or Denver, and their last three defeats were blowouts by 19 points or more.

New Orleans has a great team right now. The Pelicans acquired all-star point guard Jrue Holiday, a piece that fits perfectly along the superstar big man Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon. They also got Tyreke Evans, a great scorer who adds a lot to the second unit off the bench along with Morrow or Austin Rivers. The Pelicans have a solid starting 5 and a great rotation. They are dynamic and fast, while also being devastating under the paint with Davis. New Orleans is 3-5 right now (1-3 on the road) and they are on the back of 2 defeats to the Lakers and the Suns. Ryan Anderson will again miss out for New Orleans.

The Pelicans are clearly the better team here and they have shown some good basketball this season. What`s more important though is the match-up, and there are 2 things here that clearly work in the Pelicans` favor. First, they are a great team under the paint, while Utah is 27th in the NBA in points allowed in the paint. Expect New Orleans to abuse Jazz in the frontcourt and Anthony Davis could have a great game today, especially since he is rested after playing under 30 minutes in the last game. The second factor is the Pelicans` depth, they have a massive bench compared to the vulnerable Utah second unit and they could go on runs when the starters are out. I can`t see the Jazz getting out of this bad matchup, especially since you can`t say they are superior in any other aspect of the game or positions on the court.

Utah did defeat New Orleans 11 times out of the last 13 times they played them at home, but this season and today these teams are totally changed and things are completely different, so the H2H is not too relevant.

UTA has home court advantage but this didn`t help them too much until now. They meet a good team which is hungry for points as is due for a solid performance after 2 recent letdowns. Considering the match-up advantage that the Pelicans have, I expect them to come out of this game with an important road win. Utah is dirt poor this season and they need a more accessible game and match-up to record their first win. The small 2 point asian handicap is surely within the Pelicans` reach, they should cover this spread. My pick is something like 90-100 here for New Orleans.
