Paris Saint Germain hosts Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, with the french side rated as a 1.65 odds favorite by the bookies. This will be the second consecutive tie against an English side for PSG, after they routed Chelsea 4-2 aggregate in the previous stage.
After winning the title in France, PSG took its foot of the gas and their performances dropped. We didn’t see the team that was blowing out everybody in France anymore and the hosts had a couple of draws and losses in the last few weeks. However, the French side had a very good practice ahead of this match, putting in a solid performance in a 4-1 win over Nice, which will give them confidence for this clash.
Manchester City has not been playing well lately, that is a fact. Even in the double against Dynamo Kiev they were modest, losing 1-0 at home after winning 3-1 on the road. Just 3 wins in the last 11 matches in all competitions is a disastrous stat for a team like City. The visitors often struggled to score and the defense often looked horrible. But, on the bright side, City played their best match in months a few days ago, destroying Bournemouth 4-0 on the road.

Team news & lineups:
Aurier is the only definite absentee for PSG, but Verratti and Pastore could also miss out. Lucas Moura might start at the expense of Cavani. Manchester City won’t be able to count on Kompany, Yaya Toure, Sterling and Nasri. There`s also a slight doubt over Hart’s fitness, but he will most likely be in the starting lineup.
Paris SG: Trapp – Marquinhos, Silva, Luiz, Maxwell – Rabiot, Motta, Matuidi – Lucas, Ibrahimovic, Di Maria
Manchester City: Hart – Sagna, Otamendi, Mangala, Clichy – Fernando, Fernandinho – Navas, Silva, De Bruyne – Aguero
De Bruyne’s return over the weekend gave a boost to City’s offense and the 4-0 win will go a long way towards improving the morale of the visitors. City is the underdog here, but I can see them scoring a goal against PSG, just like Chelsea did. Their strength lies up front and they definitely want to bang in that crucial away goal, that will be the main objective.
As for PSG, the French side should definitely be able to find the net against a shaky, error-prone City defense. The center back pairing of Otamendi and Mangala often looked very bad and a team of PSG’s quality, at home, will be able to exploit that.
Both teams have incredible quality up front and neither team looks safe enough at the back to keep a clean sheet. I expect a good match with both sides having chances, so I will bet on goals. My tip is both teams to score. Prediction: Paris Saint Germain – Manchester City 2-1.
