PSG – Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo Rafa Benitez Real Madrid

The meeting between Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid will highlight the second match day of the week in Champions League, as the two power horses both have maximum points and will fight it off for the first place in Group A.

Paris Saint Germain is fresh off a 2-0 win at Bastia in Ligue 1, their fifth in a row in all competitions and yet another match without losing. PSG hasn`t lost a match since falling 2-0 to Barcelona in April and the French side finally looks ready to make a push for the Champions League semifinals. The hosts have scored at least 2 goals in all but 3 matches this season.

Real Madrid is not exactly turning heads with their performance on the pitch lately and manager Rafa Benitez is already under scrutiny, but the fact is that Real is doing the job. First place in this group with a 6-0 goal difference, first place in Spain’s Primera Division. The only undefeated team in Europe’s Top 5 leagues, along with PSG. The issue for Real has been scoring, which is not all that surprising considering the style of Benitez.

Team news & lineups:

Kimpembe and Trapp are out for PSG, while Veratti and especially Luiz are questionable. Real Madrid has a lot more problems missing key players in both defense and offense. Benzema, James, Pepe, Carvajal and possibly Ramos and Bale will not be available.

PSG: Sirigu – Maxwell, Silva, Marquinhos, Aurier – Motta, Pastore, Di Maria – Lucas, Cavani, Ibrahimovic

Real Madrid: Navas – Marcelo, Ramos, Varane, Danilo – Casemiro, Kroos, Modric – Isco, Jese, Ronaldo

Real Madrid’s injury list is really bad news for them and even the best teams struggle when they miss absolute key players. The offense will be hurt badly by the absence of the underrated Benzema, who is instrumental to the way Real plays – particularly as there`s no adequate replacement.

PSG seems to be the more dangerous team right now and proved able to beat top teams at home, they did it with Barcelona last year. However, Real Madrid’s overall quality and ability to do the job should be enough to earn them a draw – a result that will surely please Rafa Benitez, who knows how to play for the tie. I expect a 1-1 or 2-2 score after a similar scenario like in Real’s away match with Atletico two rounds ago (1-1). However, PSG has a decent shot at winning this if Real’s absences will prove too much. My tip is a Draw on the PSG no bet market (win with a draw, void bet if PSG wins). Prediction: PSG – Real Madrid 1-1.
