Sociedad – Betis

Ruben Castro Betis goal

Betis Sevilla will look to back up the draw against Real Madrid with a positive result at Anoeta in the last Saturday match of the Spanish La Liga.

Real Sociedad (15th place) has not played good football lately. Just one win in the last 8 matches and a horrible performance last time out, when Sociedad lost 5-1 against Sporting Gijon. The embarrassment will likely trigger a reaction from the hosts, but it remains to be seen if their poor form and injury problems will allow them to put on a better performance this time around – especially since playing at home hasn’t helped Sociedad much this season.

Betis (14th place) went trough a really rough patch in the last six weeks or so, losing 5 consecutive matches in all competitions before claiming two impressive draws against Villarreal and Real Madrid. They also failed to score in 7 consecutive games before the 1-1 draw last round. Additionally, Betis is still riding an 11 match winless streak in all competitions. However, the last two matches saw a massive improvement from the Sevilla side. They fully deserved both their draws against Villarreal and Real Madrid. They could have even won against Los Blancos last weekend, as Real’s equalizer came from a clear offside position.

Team news & lineups:

Sociedad continues to have big injury problems and will have to do without Agirretxe, Canales, Yuri, Martinez, Navas and De la Bella, in addition to having doubts over Vela, Granero, Zurutuza and Elustondo. As for Betis, Vargas is suspended, while Piccini and Kadir are injured. Westermann is a doubt.

Real Sociedad: Rulli – Zaldua, Elustondo, Martinez, Hector – Prieto, Illarramendi, Bergara – Vela, Jonathas, Bruma

Betis Sevilla: Adan – Molinero, Gonzalez, Pezzella, Varela – N’Diaye, Petros – Joaquin, Fabian, Cejudo – Castro

I`m not so sure Real Sociedad deserves to be a 1.70 odds favorite here. Betis has been the better team overall this season and, despite not winning for 11 games, they are back in business judging by their last two performances. Betis will also be pumped up after the match against Real and even though they put on a huge effort, with a one week break since that game they should not suffer physically.

Betis also plays great on the road (4-3-4), while Sociedad wasn’t that great at home this season (3-3-4). Indeed, Betis has massive problems up front, they went 7 games without a goal before the Real Madrid match and even in that game they only created chances / scored from outside the box, via spectacular individual efforts. However, their defense is top notch right now and against an out of form, shaky club like Sociedad which is struggling with injuries, it should be enough for at least a draw.

All in all, my tip on this encounter is Betis Sevilla to cover the +0,75 asian handicap. Expect a similar level of football from the two teams. Prediction: Real Sociedad – Betis Sevilla 1-1.

Pick: Betis (+0,75 Asian Handicap)
