Monday night football in Serie A will see Roma take on Cagliari. The hosts have lost the first place to Juventus but can get it back with a win today, so motivation is very high.
Roma faded away a little bit in the last period of time. After starting with 10 consecutive wins (!!!), Roma has now registered to consecutive draws in the Serie A with Torino and Sassuolo – disappointing results. Roma at home is 5-1-0 with 14-1 goal difference and would have been 6-0-0 with 14-0 goal difference if not for the Sassuolo 95 minute equalizer last round. Now Juve has 2 points over Roma in the standings but the Giallorossi have this game in hand and can retake the first place. Today Roma will welcome back Gervinho which is a huge boost – the last 2 draws for sure had something to do with Gervinho and Totti missing. The captain is still out – as well as Destro and Torosidis, but besides them Roma has a clean bill of health.
Roma: De Sanctis – Maicon, Castan, Burdisso, Balzaretti – De Rossi, Pjanic, Strootman – Florenzi, Ljajic, Gervinho

Cagliari was not impressive so far in the Serie A. Cagliari is on the 14th place and a reason for their poor placement is they defended very poor – 20 goals conceded in 12 matches. They will try to keep a clean sheet today but they know that their chances to do that are slim. Cagliari has not kept a single clean sheet in this season (Serie A + Italian Cup)! Cagliari lost 3 consecutive matches before winning 2-1 at home vs. Torino last round. The visitors are without Nainggolan, Agazzi and Perico.
Cagliari: Avramov – Pisano, Rossettini, Astori, Murru – Conti, Dessena, Nainggolan, Eriksson – Sau, Ibarbo
Despite scoring in every game this season (a total of 26 goals in 12 matches), Roma has struggled in front of goal in the last three matches. But for this game they get Gervinho back and for sure they will not try to defend a 1-0 for the third consecutive time. They got away with it vs. Chievo, but were punished by Torino and especially by the 95 minute Torino goal. Roma will try to get at least a 2 goal and they should be able to score at least twice against the poor Cagliari defense. The visitors will have their chances on the break and they could snatch a goal themselves, because Roma’s back line does not seem so amazing like in the first 10 rounds of the season. Cagliari knows they have to score to get something so they will not park the bus. I was very careful in choosing what to bet on this game: a home win is probable, but the odds are short and I find the handicap a little too risky. I will bet on the over 2.5 goals, but being realistically that a 2-0 scoreline could occur. Nevertheless, I am confident that the visitors will also get one goal because they will surely concede and can’t just sit back, so my pick would be 2-1 or 3-1 for Roma.
