Rosario – Atl Nacional

Very interesting game here tonight in Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, the first leg between Rosario Central and Atletico Nacional Medellin.

Rosario Central is a very interesting team since been taken over by Coudet, himself an ex Rosario player and captain, who took Rosario in Libertadores the last time they were here, but as a player. Rosario qualified from a normal group. They did not impress, but still clinched first place. But they did impress in the last round, beating Gremio Porto Alegre, 1-0 in Brazil and 3-0 in Argentina, with an impressive display. I like Rosario very much, they are a great team, the only problem is that they have too much young players for my taste, for this stage. You need experience, maturity in order to do great things at this stage.

And the other problem is they miss Larrondo, a very good player, who is half of the striker duo which usually starts. Of course, they have the other half, Marco Ruben, who was top scorer last year in Argentina, but somehow i am not sure it’s enough.

Atletico Nacional Medellin is hands down the best team in Colombia. They grew immensely under star coach Osorio, and have continued with great results seamlessly even after they were left by Osorio. Right after the group stage, Nacional was the #1 favourite to win Libertadores. It’s the first time in many years when bookies placed a team outside of Brazil or Argentina as the #1 favourite.

About this game in terms of missing players: Rosario will miss just Larrondo. Nacional will miss Ibarbo, 5 app 0 goals and Ruiz, 9 app 3 goals.
