Fellow Americans Ryan Harrison and John Isner will square off in the ATP Atlanta final.
Ryan Harrison has been in very good form in the first couple of months in 2017, but hasn`t done much since then. Expectations were not high for him coming into Atlanta, but he managed to reach the final and deservingly so – even if he did have problems throughout the tournament. Harrison had a bye in the first round, almost lost to Millman in the second (6-7 7-6 7-5), defeated Eubanks in the quarters (6-1 6-2) and advanced past Kyle Edmund 6-7 6-3 6-4 in the semifinals, seemingly benefiting from an Edmund injury.
Isner has been on fire after Wimbledon. Big John won Newport without losing a set and went on to continue the same form here in Atlanta, reaching the final en-fanfare with wins over Pospisil, Lacko and Muller – again without losing a set. His semifinal win against Muller was particularly impressive, as Isner defeated a red hot, big server like Gilles Muller, 6-4 6-2.

I wasn`t planning on tipping this match, but bookies opening with odds as high as 1.50 on Isner seems borderline crazy. Honestly I was expecting a price of 1.20 – 1.25 on Big John and I feel those would have been the correct odds. I also think the current price will drop fast.
Credit to Ryan Harrison for reaching the final, but he hasn`t been exactly fantastic this week. He almost lost against Millman early in the tournament, and his semifinal against Edmund might have been won because of Edmund’s injury.
The Brit was in control against Harrison, winning the first set and putting pressure on the American’s serve early in the second, until he suddenly started blowing errors all over the place. He asked for a medical timeout twice in the last set, so the explanation for his collapse probably lies with his physical state. Harrison did well to stay relatively consistent from the baseline, but even so he wasn`t quite able to capitalize on Edmund’s low level, missing chances and almost being pushed into a third set tiebreak.
Harrison only broke Edmund 3 times in 3 sets despite Edmund not being a great server and also serving poorly on that night, so his chances on the return against Isner’s huge serve don`t look good – especially as Isner hasn`t lost serve this week. On the same note, Harrison doesn`t have the scariest serve out there, so Isner will have his chances to break.
Isner has been extremely consistent lately, has won 7 matches in a row in straight sets and we know what we will get from him tonight. Harrison will need his absolute best tennis to challenge Big John here, and he hasn`t shown it on a consistent basis this week – or in any other recent weeks.
I expect Big John to claim the title here at ATP Atlanta rather comfortably, maybe in straight sets. My tip is Isner to win and I definitely expect odds on this bet to drop. I might be wrong of course, but this price doesn`t make sense to me and I am confident enough to go on investing 10 units on this encounter. Prediction: Ryan Harrison – John Isner 4-6 6-7.
