AS Saint-Etienne hosts Stade de Reims in Round 2 of the French Ligue 1 after both teams got good results in 1st match.
Saint-Etienne beat Guingamp 2-0 on opening day last week … ok, Guingamp not the best team in France for sure, but a solid away win for Saint-Etienne. Hosts will try to repeat the performance from last year when they finished 4th in Ligue 1; St Etienne has an important game vs. Karabukspor coming up in Europa League but I bet that they will have full focus for Reims to get a good result. Saint Etienne is known as a strong home team so that is an advantage for them. Clearc and Baysse are out of the lineup for Saint Etienne.

Reims held PSG to a 2-2 draw at home in the first round and could have even won the game, they led 2-1. This is a very resilient and capable team, I watched them last year against strong sides and always made it hard for opponents and seems this year Reims is even better. A very compact and disciplined side, can defend good but are also very sharp and fast on attacks. Reims plays better at home but they lost only 8 of 19 games away last year so they can get results, they are not so easy to beat. Weber, Peuget, Benedick, Preville out for Reims. Conte and Turan doubtful.

Saint-Etienne is a good team and deserve to favorites at home but odds 1.50 vs. Reims seem a bit low; do not worth a bet in my eyes. Reims is not a team you beat before the game starts and after all Saint-Etienne are not PSG. I look for Reims to play disciplined football and not make it easy for Saint-Etienne, the hosts will probably barely edge it if they will win … but I’m not so sure they will against this Reims team. My tips will be Reims to cover the 1 goal asian handicap, I look for an x2 but I have security in case of narrow Saint-Etienne win. Just can’t see Saint Etienne blowing out Reims today despite the fact that almost 1 year ago they got a 4-0 result at home vs. this team … so this is a factor to take into account but much time has passed since then (and also it was the only win for St Etienne in 4 games since Reims promoted). Reims also has some injuries but also had them last round vs. PSG … actually they get back 2 important players.
