Inverness Caledonian Thistle will be under new manager John Hughes (ex-Hartlepool) for this game after Terry Butcher and his assistant accepted an offer from struggling Hibernian.
Saint Mirren said “thank you” when Hearts was awarded a 15 point penalty. The relegation candidates now have a chance for a peaceful season without fear of going down directly, because they were one of the teams with chances to finish last. The hosts are currently 8th in the Premiership, mainly because of their recent form: they climbed out from the bottom places in the Premiership with 7 points in the last 3 games. Good form for St. Mirren but honestly speaking they faced poor opposition: Ross County, Hibernian and Partick Thistle.
Saint Mirren has a record of 2-3-2 at home, 4-3-6 overall and the last game they played finished 2-2 in the cup with second tier team Queen of the South. Today the only absentees for the hosts are Barron and Teale.

Inverness is clearly the second best team in the league so far after Celtic. The visitors have 9 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses and also one game in hand. A win today will put them in excellent position for retaining the 2nd place and even challenging Celtic for the title, at least on paper to make things interesting. The away games have been a problem for Inverness but mostly in the start of the season – at the moment Inverness has won 3 of the last 4 on the road. The visitors are in absolute top form: they have 4 consecutive wins + an extra time win in the League Cup. Billy Mckay is in devastating form with 13 goals to his name so far this season in the Premiership and the two Cups.
The managing change could hurt Inverness but I don’t see it having a real impact. Hughes is a solid manager and has done well previously in Scotland but also at Hartlepool despite getting relegated to the English League Two. He said he won`t change too much for this game and he just wants the players to continue playing their game. He could choose to stay in the stands for his first game in charge. Captain Foran returns for Inverness, but Vincent is still missing with a broken leg. Inverness is close to a clean bill of health.
No matter how you put it the manager change brings some questions and it can always have a bad effect in the first game, with the team going so well prior to the ex-manager resigning. This does not sound good for betting, but I can see huge value because of this incident and because of Saint Mirren’s deceptive good form. Inverness is the better team by far, they are playing some of the best football in Scotland. Also, they have an excellent defense which could deny the goal-shy Saint Mirren from scoring. They also have Billy Mckay who is scoring like crazy and could decide this like he did numerous times this season. I am going with the value bet here but I also think it will end up a winning bet. Big stakes. Saint Mirren – Inverness CT 0-1.
