Kevin Anderson will take on local favorite Sam Querrey in the US Open quarterfinals, with a place in the semis up for grabs.

Kevin Anderson had Ok results pre – US Open as well, reaching the final at Washington and the quarterfinals at Montreal, beating Querrey along the way. Anderson defeated Aragone, Gulbis, Coric and Lorenzi to reach this stage at the US Open, losing a single set in a Round 16 victory over Lorenzi. The South African looked solid and consistent throughout the event.

Querrey leads the H2H 9-6 (6-5 on hard), but lost the previous meeting just a couple of months ago at Montreal. On the other hand, Querrey also won a meeting this year, at Wimbledon. Both guys love hard courts and are big servers, so nobody holds a matchup advantage here.

Both players played very good tennis this week and this could be a close one, but you have to feel Querrey has been slightly better overall. He played magnificent tennis in his 4th round demolishion of Zverev, while Anderson was less impressive in his last match, dropping a set against Paolo Lorenzi.

Sam Querrey reached the semifinals in his last Grand Slam at Wimbledon, so that should give him extra confidence coming into this match, making him more comfortable with the situation (especially as Anderson is known to have chocked in big matches before). Being at home is another thing that works in Querrey`s favor. These two circumstances could be the X factors here and the advantage needed to push Querrey over the finish line.

As previously stated this could be a close one, but there are a lot of small things which work in Querrey`s favor. Adding them up, the American to win seems like a smart bet here.

I expect Sam Querrey to qualify for his second Grand Slam semifinal in a row. When it`s all said and done, the most important thing is that his tennis has been a bit better than Anderson’s this week, he showed a bit more killer instinct than the South African, and there seem to be no auxiliary factors pointing towards Anderson.
