Williams – Kerber

Serena Williams Angelique Kerber Australian Open final bet

A seventh Australian Open title is on the line for Serena Williams, as she meets Germany’s Angelique Kerber as a 1.10 – 1.15 odds favorite.

Serena Williams has not lost a set in this tournament, she did not have to play a single tiebreak and aside for her 1st round match against Giorgi (6-4 7-5) she won all her matches by a difference of 7 or more games. Absolute dominance for Serena these two weeks and it’s hard to see the American breaking a sweat to win the final. She’s truly at the top of her game, a situation in which she’s unbeatable on the WTA tour.

Kerber had an excellent tournament herself. Like Serena, she was a bit rusty in the first round, surviving a scare against Misaki Doi, when she also lost her only set of the tournament. After that, Kerber cruised, winning all sets 7-5 or less, though she was pushed a bit by Azarenka and Konta, who were very competitive for one set each. The German player will hope that her stellar defense will break something in Serena’s offensive mechanism.

Bet now on Williams vs Kerber with the highest Australian Open odds at 1xbet.com!

Serena leads the Head 2 Head 5-1 (all meetings were on hard courts), winning all 5 matches in straight sets. The last meeting was in 2014, won by Williams, who has a 4 match winning streak against Kerber. Obviously it’s hard to say anybody has a matchup advantage over Serena and Kerber does not have it either, as she`s not the kind of big hitter that can sometimes trouble Williams.

Listen, Kerber has been rock solid in this tournament, but beating Serena in this kind of form is a virtually impossible. I doubt Kerber will be able to win her 1st set against the American in this Australian Open final and I doubt that she will be able to pose a realistic threat.

Look for Serena Williams to start strong, dominating with her serve and attacking shots. Her experience is also a very important factor against a player that will be in her first ever Grand Slam final. It would be a huge surprise for the mighty Serena to not use her experience against a young rookie like Kerber. All in all, I can see the American winning rather easily, so the 6 game handicap line looks pretty good to me.

My tip is Serena Williams to win and cover the 6 game handicap. A stake of 8 units for this bet seems reasonable. Prediction: Serena Williams – Angelique Kerber 6-1 6-3.

Pick: Williams -6
Odds: 1.85 @ 1xBet
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 6.80

  1. Maybe halep will learn something from this kerber. I mean serena came back twice.from 1 – 0 sets she tied and then from 2 5 she make 4 5 and still kerber menege to regain herself . No offense to halep.she is a good player but she doesn.t have that mean warrior atitude to win grand slams

    • I don`t agree. I think it`s a matter of quality and circumstances. I believe Halep in the form of her life would have defeated a shaky Serena, just like Kerber did. And I think Kerber is just a better player than Halep overall.

I think Halep performed way over her potential so far, it`s not a matter of mentality, it`s a matter of quality. I don`t like Halep, but many people don`t give her a fair shake. The girl reached No.2 in the world with a poor serve, no power, without knowing how to hit a volley or a drop shot, so she must have some fighting spirit.

  2. As for you rostick:”beating serena is virtualy imposibile” ??you should now better.reading your pick and watching the game …not so imposibile now is it?

    • I said “beating Serena in this kind of form”. But yes, you are right, I should have known better regarding the fact that form is not permanent. Serena chocked before. I believed that even on a poor day, experience would get her trough. I was wrong.

    • And yes, I was ashamed of myself as I was watching the game. Felt sorry for my money as well 🙂 I was poor in this Australian Open.
