Serena Williams and Na Li will meet today in Istanbul for the WTA World Tour Finals title. Serena leads the H2H 9-1 and won three times this year, the last encounter being a straightforward 6-0 6-3 at US Open.
The american No.1 is surely the best player by far, due to her class but also the amazingly poor level right now in the WTA. She won all her matches here at Istanbul (Kerber, Radwanska, Kvitova, Jankovic), losing a single set in the semifinals against Jelena. The thing is that, while Serena is the dominant force in WTA, she had physical problems in the semifinal against Jankovic, that`s the reason for which she lost a set. Serena was very poor for more than half of the match, but she somehow managed to hold her own and escape with the win. You have to say Jankovic lost that game, she should have won 2-0 as the american was clearly vastly underperforming in the first 2 sets, but as I said, the level in WTA is just too low.

Na Li found some fantastic form here in Istanbul and, like Serena, she won all her matches (Errani, Jankovic, Azarenka, Kvitova), losing a single set in the process (to the same Jankovic, in the groups). The chinese player is one of the few in the WTA that can play at a truly high level, her problem is that it doesn`t happen very often. However, she seems to be in the zone here at Istanbul, playing her brand of attacking tennis, painting the lines and limiting her unforced errors.
Na Li has what it takes to challenge Serena on her day, two of her losses to Williams this year were very close. The question here is if Serena will manage to be fit or not. She admitted she is not feeling good and that she`s tired, but recovery methods are so advanced these days that you can`t know for sure how she will perform. If she plays like she did against Jankovic, Na Li should win this and the odds represent amazing value. Li plays attacking tennis and she will force Serena to move a lot, a thing which Jankovic failed to do, so if the american is not completely fit she will pay today. I`m choosing the simple win instead of a handicap because if Serena will be at her best, she can win this very easy.
I am very reluctant concerning betting on WTA and I do it maybe 5 times a year, only when a value bet arises. I think this is the case now. While this is of course a risky bet to take, I`m hoping that Serena will be at the same level she was yesterday, a case in which my pick is Serena Williams – Na Li 6-7 1-6. Honestly, you have to be insane to go on Serena here at ~1.15 when you saw her semifinal game and you know that she is not feeling good.
