The second round at ATP Nottingham will see Sergiy Stakhovsky take on Viktor Troicki.
Stakhovsky played some really bad tennis in the last few weeks, which was pretty surprising given the fact that he is a very able grass court player – we all remember his win over Federer in Wimbledon. The Ukrainian lost to Groth in the Stuttgart first round and followed that up with a 2 set loss to Gulbis in the Halle first round. However, Stak showed improvement to defeat Steve Johnson 6-4 6-3 here in Nottingham – a good result, even though Johnson wasn`t in the greatest form either.
Troicki had a bye in the first round, which was a good thing for him, giving him time to recover after he played a lot of tennis recently. Troicki reached the final at Stuttgart and the semifinal at Queens in the last two weeks, losing to Nadal and Murray after beating the likes of Cilic (twice) or John Isner. Clearly the Serbian is in fantastic form but the question is how motivated will he be to make another run – as it might hurt his Wimbledon bid next week.

Troicki leads the Head 2 Head 5-1 (4-1 at ATP level) and he clearly has a matchup advantage over Stakhovsky, even though the last meeting was back in 2012. Both players like grass – in theory the surface might suit Stakhovsky a bit better, but Troicki has been one of the most in form players on grass this season.
A third deep run in three weeks, with Wimbledon just around the corner, might hurt Troicki’s chances to go far at the Grand Slam. However, I`m confident that he will give it his all today – otherwise it would have been easy to just skip Nottingham. The fact that he`s here means that he`s motivated to build on his excellent form and having a bye in the first round means that he shouldn`t feel any fatigue.
A rested and motivated Troicki should be too much for Stak. The Ukrainean is not in his best form and if Troicki doesn`t drop his level, it`s hard to see any way for Stak to win. Quality and especially form are on Troicki’s side, with the Head 2 Head being another major advantage for Viktor. My tip is Troicki to win. Prediction: Sergiy Stakhovsky – Viktor Troicki 7-6 3-6 4-6.

I had a good run, now I`m having a bad run. Unfortunately that`s how it goes and I can`t get mad. These were bets I was confident in, aside for Las Palmas, I should have stayed away from that as I`m not an expert on Spanish football.
