Sevilla – Las Palmas

Sevilla Las Palmas La Liga prediction

Sevilla will host Las Palmas in the 5th round of La Liga, with the hosts hoping that playing at home will make the difference against a Las Palmas team which struggles on the road.

Sevilla started the season very well, claiming 10 points in the first 4 Primera Division rounds and also qualifying to the Champions League group stages – where they held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Anfield in their opening match. The hosts are undefeated in the 7 matches they played this season in all competitions and are coming after a 1-0 victory away at Girona last weekend. Three points here would see Sevilla maintain their 2nd place in La Liga at the end of the round.

Las Palmas made a lot of moves in the summer and brought in many big name players despite not spending a single cent on transfers. The likes of Remy, Callery, Aquilani or Samper came on loan or as free transfers, but on the other hand Las Palmas sold central midfielder Mesa, who was arguably the engine of the team last season, and Boateng also left. Las Palmas has 6 points in the first 4 rounds and is coming after two consecutive wins against Athletic Bilbao and Malaga. Their 3-1 win at Malaga was only their second road win since they promoted to La Liga two seasons ago!

Team news & lineups:

Nolito is the only absentee for Sevilla, although Pizarro might miss out as well. Las Palmas will be without Samper, Halilovic and Tana, while Bigas and Castellano are questionable.

FC Sevilla: Rico – Mercado, Pareja, Kjaer, Escudero – Banega, N’Zonzi, Vazquez – Navas, Yedder, Correa

Las Palmas: Chichizola – Macedo, Navarro, Lemos, Castellano – Viera, Aquilani, Santana – Tannane, Calleri, Vitolo

There is a clear discrepancy here between Sevilla being renowned as an excellent home team, while Las Palmas has big problems on the road. Last season the visitors had 1 win, 3 draws and 15 losses on the road in Primera Division!

You would expect Las Palmas to struggle here away from home against such a good, solid team like Sevilla. The hosts have been in great form to start this season and do not look prone for an upset, especially considering how well they play at home.

My tip is Sevilla to cover the -1 asian handicap. With Sevilla being extremely stable at home and meeting an opponent who was rubbish on the road last season, this can be viewed as a pretty simple and secure bet which should end up as a winner or as void.

The quality gap, home court advantage, and Sevilla’s good form and health are enough for me to go with the hosts here. I expect a 1 goal win at the least, but hopefully Sevilla will be able to win by 2 or more. Prediction: FC Sevilla – Las Palmas 2-0.
