South Korea – Germany

South Korea Germany betting preview World Cup

Germany will look to secure qualification from Group F with a win over the already eliminated South Korea on Wednesday.

South Korea has been really disappointing so far in the competition, looking like one of the Worst teams in the World Cup. They lost 0-1 against Sweden and 1-2 against Mexico but in all honesty they played worse than the results suggests, and they seemed overmatched by both opponents. When you look back in time a little bit it becomes clear that this Korea Republic side is just not very good – they barely qualified to the World Cup (finishing 7 points behind Iran and only 2 points ahead of Syria in their group), and were poor in the pre – World Cup friendlies as well.

Germany was on the brink of disaster in the last match against Sweden. After their opening loss with Mexico, Germany was tied 1-1 with Sweden going into the 90th minute and had a man sent off as well. Qualification was hanging in the balance, but a brilliant execution by Toni Kroos handed the Germans a 2-1 win, which to be fair they fully deserved.

Team news & lineups:

Boateng is suspended for Germany, while Hummels and Rudy are doubtful. South Korea has question marks over the fitness of Park Joo-Ho.

Germany: Neuer – Kimmich, Hummels, Rudiger, Hector – Gundogan, Kroos – Muller, Reus, Draxler – Werner

South Korea: Hyun-Woo – Yong, Hyun-Soo, Young-Gwon, Min-Woo – Sung-Yueng, Se-Jong – Seon-Min, Jae-Sung, Hee-Chan – Son

Despite needing a 90th minute piece of individual skill in the last match to avoid a very complicated situation, Germany has not played bad in this World Cup.

The Germans were undoubtedly unlucky against both Mexico and Sweden, dominating possession and creating a lot of opportunities in both matches. They just couldn`t finish off their chances, which suggests a lack of killer instinct that could hurt them later in the tournament.

However, against a South Korea side which has been easy to break down so far, Germany should have an easier time getting goals. It looks very unlikely that South Korea’s modest defense will be able to resist too long, and the Asians didn`t prove themselves much better up front either – so Germany’s shaky defense will have a better shot to keep a clean sheet this time.

Die Mannschaft need a win here unless they want to count on Mexico beating Sweden, so expect the Germans to come out strong, dominate the game and create plenty of goal scoring chances.

Morale should be high after that drama filled win over Sweden, so I`m not anticipating an upset and I`m backing Germany to cover the -1,5 handicap here. Prediction: South Korea – Germany 0-3.
