The match of the tournament so far will see Germany hosting Spain in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.
Spain has been arguably the most impressive team over the past couple of weeks, putting together a string of 4 wins in 4 matches, scoring 9 times and allowing a single goal, in the 4-1 win over Georgia a few days ago. Despite not having the same quality of players they had a decade ago, Spain is looking good right now and many are viewing them as favorites to win it all.
Germany also started well with two convincing wins against Scotland and Hungary, but once the quality of opponents went up the Mannschaft looked a bit vulnerable. It was a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in the final group game and a controversial 2-0 win against Denmark, where the Danes were arguably disadvantaged by the referee.
Team news & lineups:
Both teams come into this match at full strength.
Spain: Simon – Carvajal, Normand, Laporte, Cucurella – Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz – Yamal, Morata, Williams
Germany: Neuer – Kimmich, Rudiger, Schlotterbeck, Raum – Andrich, Kroos – Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz – Havertz
It’s fair to say Spain looked a bit better so far, but Germany has also played consistent football and they are actually my favorites to win this tournament, although they will have a tough task here. But with the quality in their ranks and with the edge of home court, I really don’t think Germany loses this match.
I’m giving the hosts the edge ever so slightly, but I think the best value is speculating for a draw in 90 minutes, so that will be my tip here. Good odds, low stakes. Prediction: Spain – Germany 1-1 (Germany via extra time).
