The second leg of this Czech Cup semifinal will start from a 3-1 advantage for Jablonec, after the visiting team got a shock first leg win against the best team in the league, Sparta Prague.
The home team has been nothing short of brilliant this season and with a stat line of 22 wins, 4 draws and zero losses (64-15 goal difference) they are one of the only undefeated sides in european football. Sparta Prague has virtually won the title in the Czech Republic, they have a 10 point advantage over Viktoria Plzen with 4 rounds to go, so the Cup has their undivided attention at the moment. Jablonec is right in the middle of the standings right now, on the 8th place, and like Sparta they can fully focus on the cup. They are a decent side and actually played pretty good against the league leaders this season – besides the win in the first leg, they lost two close matches in the league (2-3 and 1-2). However, there is a rather big gap in quality between the two sides and Jablonec will hope to avoid having Dukla Prague’s fate: Dukla lost 2-0 at Sparta in the Cup quarters after winning at home.
Even though Sparta lost the first leg 3-1 they were all over Jablonec and had superior stats in pretty much every department – it was simply an unlucky day for the future Champions. This time around, at home, I reckon Sparta will be able to turn it around and book the tickets to the final. The Prague side is simply at another level than Jablonec right now and will be fired up, as the Cup is all they have left to fight for. Sparta can score a couple of goals here as both sides are very offensive minded and Jablonec does not excell in the defensive department, so a handicap is well within reach for the hosts.
