Fifth seed Stan Wawrinka takes on the most in-form player on the ATP tour right now, Feliciano Lopez. It should be a cracking game.
Wawrinka had a great year, winning Australian Open and Monte Carlo, but in the rest of the season he did not play great tennis. He is not a grass court specialist, his record on the surface is rather poor and he entered Wimbledon on the back of a big loss against Dimitrov in Queens. Indeed, the swiss played much better here at the SW19, losing just one set on his road to the 4th round, but Sousa, Lu and Istomin were not exactly top class opposition and neither player was in top form. This will be Wawrinka second big test on grass this year after the one against Dimitrov, which he failed miserably.

Feliciano Lopez was simply brilliant in the last 3 weeks, reaching the final in Queens (lost 7-6 6-7 6-7 to Dimitrov), winning Eastbourne over Gasquet and now here he is in the Wimbledon 4th round after wins against Sugita, Pavic and most notably Isner, a 4 set victory on Monday. Lopez is a grass court specialist and he always played well at Wimbledon, his serve is working amazing in the last weeks, he is nearly unbreakable and he is at a really solid level of tennis, having proved he can take on top guys like Dimitrov, Berdych, Gasquet or Isner.
Wawrinka leads the H2H 3-2 and won the last meeting, which was last year in Paris. However, the two have never met on grass, where Lopez clearly holds the matchup advantage.
I have to go with Lopez to win this. His form is terrific, the surface suits him much better and his serve is almost perfect right now. We can expect at least one tiebreak, in which Lopez will surely have the advantage, having played so many and with so much success recently. The spaniard will meet a better player, but not a better player on grass. I`m a little worried about Feliciano’s fitness after playing so much tennis over the last 3 weeks, but at these kind of odds this is a risk that I am comfortable to take. Expect surface and form to make the difference for this bet. My tip is Feliciano Lopez to win and the odds are going down big time on the Spaniard.
