Sunderland – Man City

Sunderland Manchester City betting previewBoth Sunderland and Manchester City will be desperate to pick up the three points today at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland shares the last place in the league with Crystal Palace and survival in the Premiership seems to be improbable for the Black Cats. They have just 4 points in 11 games, 6 points from safety. They finally fired DiCanio about 2 and a half months ago and hired Gustavo Poyet. Results still did not come right away, but lately the team showed visible improvements. Sunderland won two of the last three games played, 2-1 over Newcastle in the PL and 2-1 over Southampton in the League Cup. Sunderland also improved their goalscoring ability, but they are still conceding way too many goals. Their defense is the worst in the Premier League (22 goals allowed), even worse than Crystal Palace`s.

Manchester City finally got rid of Mancini this season and under Manuel Pellegrini they finally look able to become a world class team. They have a good season so far, still adapting to Pellegrini`s tactics, but playing well. A win today would see City climb up to the third place in the table. The Manchester side has played some fantastic attacking football, no surprise, as Pellegrini is a very offensive minded manager and he also brought in a number of great offensive players in the summer (Negredo, Jovetic, Navas). City is in great form, losing only to Chelsea in the last 7 games due to a 90th minute goal. City won the last two games vs. Norwich and CSKA Moscow with a combined goal difference of 12-2!

Team news & lineups:

Sunderland has Cattermole and Dossena unavailable for the City game. The visitors can`t count on Jovetic, Silva and Kompany. Nastasic and Fernandinho are questionable. Joe Hart will most likely be benched again, and romanian Pantilimon should make his 3rd straight appearance for The Citizens.

Sunderland: Westwood – Bardsley, O’Shea, Brown, Colback – Johnson, Ki, Gardner, Giaccherini – Altidore, Fletcher.

Manchester City: Pantilimon – Zabaleta, Demichelis, Nastasic, Clichy – Nasri, Fernandinho, Toure, Milner – Aguero, Negredo

11 of the last 12 games played by Manchester City had at least three goals scored. On the other hand, Sunderland conceded in every official game they played since April (all competitions), except a 2-0 home win over Peterborough in the league cup. Some impressive stats and numbers, no doubt.

Manchester City should take this, but they have been poor on the road and I am more confident in the over 2,5 goals bet, which also has better odds. City is in incredible form up front and against Sunderland`s shaky defense you have to expect them to create a lot of chances, especially with the hosts having to attack. Sunderland has no choice but to go for broke, especially at home. They need wins. Looking at City`s hesitant defense you could see the Black Cats scoring once, maybe even twice. Expect an entertaining encounter here, with two offensive teams trying to win the game. I can`t see any reason for a low scoring game, so I will have to go with maximum stakes on this one. The odds for over 2,5 are not the best, but they are not bad either and I`m happy to take them with 10 units. A pretty simple bet, but with very high chances to be a winner based on the facts. My personal pick for this clash is Sunderland – Manchester City 2-3.
