Sunderland – Man. United

Sunderland Manchester United betting previewSunderland sacked Paulo Di Canio before last round but the team has not seen in change of fortunes and lost 1-3 at home to Liverpool. The Black Cats have a horrific start to the Premier League, sitting bottom of the table with a single point in 6 rounds. Honestly caretaker manager Kevin Ball does not inspire a great deal of confidence and seeing the Liverpool defeat, you have to wonder if Sunderland will start playing some football anytime soon. On the other hand, one more week of preparation could have helped Kevin Ball to put some things in order.

Manchester United did not have the best of starts either, with the team struggling to adapt to David Moyes’ style of play. United is on a lousy 12th place in the Premier League. It`s true that the Devils had a tough draw, but on the other hand they did lose at home to WBA for example, so things are not going great. Nevertheless, United has shown good football in Champions League, defeating Leverkusen and drawing away with Shakhtar. United are not at their best but are not as poor as some people suggest. The visitors are still title material this year and they`ll only play better as the season progresses.

Team news & lineups

Sunderland will miss Brown, Dossena and Fletcher, while Manchester United can be pretty happy with the health situation. Only Ferdinand and Fletcher will miss out. Rooney is doubtfull but he should play.

Sunderland (4-4-1-1): Westwood – Gardner, O’Shea, Cuellar, Colback – Larsson, Ki, Cattermole, Johnson – Giaccherini – Altidore.

Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea – Rafael, Jones, Vidic, Evra – Fellaini, Carrick – Nani, Rooney, Welbeck – Van Persie.

United has top class quality in the squad and with Sunderland struggles you have to give an important edge to the visitors based on quality and form alone. But the most important aspect of this bet is that United needs a win badly. Already 8 points behind leaders Arsenal, the Devils absolutely have to win a game such as this one, at the last placed team in the league. Considering the experience this squad has, I doubt they will let this opportunity slip away, especially since they have an almost full squad to choose from. My pick is Manchester United to win this. I see something like 0-2, 1-2.
