Swansea – Stoke City

Andre Ayew goal Swansea

Monday night football in England, as Swansea City and Stoke City will square off in the last match of the Premier League ninth round.

Swansea is in a bad moment right now, failing to win any of the previous five matches in all competitions – losing three of them. The poor run came as a bit of a surprise, as Swansea initially did not lose in the first 5 matches of the season and was looking like a good team this year after some interesting signings. Swansea is on the back of a 2-2 home draw against Tottenham, making it 5 goals allowed in the previous 2 games.

Stoke City is in an opposite situation to Swansea, winning 3 games in a row, which is a very good performance for them – though the opposition was rather poor in the form of Bournemouth, Fulham and Aston Villa. Also, Stoke won all three games by just one goal and the level of football was not particularly great, but the victories have surely brought confidence in Mark Hughes’ side after a very poor start to the season.

Team news & lineups:

Questionable right-back Kyle Naughton is the only potential absentee for Swansea, though Andre Ayew is also doubtful, but he will almost surely start. Fulham will miss captain Ryan Shawcross, alongside Shay Given and Mame Biram Diouf.

Swansea: Fabianski – Naughton, Williams, Fernandez, Taylor – Sung-Yueng, Shelvey – Ayew, Sigurdsson, Montero – Gomis

Stoke City: Butland – Johnson, Wollscheid, Cameron, Pieters – Adam, Whelan – Shaqiri, Bojan, Arnautovic – Walters

Swansea played a decent game last round against Tottenham, showing some improvement and with the quality in the team, the bad run is set to end sooner rather than later. The hosts are healthy, while Stoke will be hurt by the absence of Ryan Shawcross and Mame Diouf.

The visitors aren`t playing as well as recent result might suggest. Swansea is the strongest opponent they met in a long time and I beleive the home side will have just enough to edge this. My tip is a Swansea win. They defeated Stoke 2-0 in the previous fixture at home and I reckon a similar result is on the table today. Prediction: Swansea City – Stoke City 2-1.
